Default Evo 8 MR brakes on a MPS 6

    Hey guys
I've done a bit of reading, but feel I need to ask a directed question to the hive to put my mind at ease.

I've got a set of Evo 8 MR 4-pots (brembo) coming this week, and am going to be installing them on my '05 MPS6.

From what I understand, they won't bolt straight on, as the caliper has bolt spacing of 140mm, and the MPS6 137mm. If someone can confirm that measurement for me, that would be fantastic.
The brake lines will fit, and from my initial understanding, the evo rotors may fit as well.

The thing I am worried about is rotor/caliper offset, and how other people have gone about doing this conversion.

I know Brembo GT kits are available for these cars, and they look like (from the pictures) they run a small spacer/dogbone. I've sent an email to MPS Garage asking if this can be purchased individually.

Basically, has anyone got some links to people who have done this conversion before? Not keen to people proclaiming the stock brakes as infallible though, I'm sure they're great and all, but I have a set of Brembos

    Thanks guys,

    Aaron

I don't thing many, if any at all have done this here.
If you can stand all the swearing, insulting and lots of pointless posts, you MIGHT be able to find some info on the mazdaspeed forum in America
Will be interesting to see how it goes. I've never been a fan of brembo on a road car. They stop well, but that's the problem I've found, they stop you, not slow you down. And I've found that annoying. You might get used to it with more driving though.

    Good luck.
Btw, if your stock calipers are the twin pots, let me know. May be interested in buying them off ya...

    FYI
EVO Brembos on a MS6 - Mazdaspeed Forums

This thread shows someone beginning the conversion... Here's stuff I've lifted out of the thread.

    I typed my measurements wrong there, it's MPS - 157mm, Evo 160mm.

Stock MPS6 brake lines fit on without dramas.

The guy reckons alfa 159 disks with custom drilled pcd are near perfect. Will talk to come brake specialists about this.

These are the specs for the brembo disks... As per the Brembo BBK for MS6.

Unfortunately the bloke went all weaksauce, and decided to sell his MPS. So the thread was never finished.
The disks aren't my main concern here, as I know I can get custom drilled rotors pretty much anywhere... It's the caliper offset that I need more information on, and more importantly, what the exact measurements of the MPS Brembo kits are. If the calipers are the same as the ones I have, then I'd imagine I just need the dogbones and disks from one of those BBK kits.

If anyone has more links that they've come across, please post them up

This cross section document can be found on the streetunit forum site:

    StreetUnitForum.com

The other attachment is the caliper dimension of the BBK from Brembo.

But assuming your following the US guys guide, then these document will not help, apart from possibly making an adapter bracket?

If this what you are after, or are you after the offset of the Evo 8 Brembo calipers?

The alternative is to trawl Evo forum sites, or my favorite - Nissan sites (cause they lead the way in upgrading brakes from other car manufacturers).

You might also need to consider whether:
    1. You need to replace the master brake cylinder as well; and/or
    2. Whether you rim will fit over the new caliper.

Stock rims won't fit after the BBK is installed as stocks are +50 offset on a 6mps, you probably need to run a +45 or less offset, but then you run into tyre scrubbing issues if you are lowered. However there are certain rims on the market that are designed for clearance with the lower offset, so you may need to go rim shopping at the sametime,

Good luck and let us know how you go, i'd be interested if you get this project completed.

Cheers mate! Those cross-sections are probably exactly what I need.
I've been thinking I'll buy myself a second hand stock front strut aswell from somewhere (wrecker suggestions in Perth?) to dummy fit things onto without dismantling the car.

I'm under the impression the stock master cyl will run the brakes fine, and I'm thinking I might just grab a set of RX8 rims for the time being to fit over them, until I've got a good few grand saved away for some baller rims. But plenty of other things to put money on before that.

Can someone please advise me on how different the MPS strut/hub/etc is from a standard 6?
Want to buy a front assembly to dummy fit parts to, but in WA wrecked MPS's are few and far between. Would a stock 6 strut be enough of a similarity to trial fit to, or do I need to source an actual MPS strut?

Mate the 6 doesn't have struts, it has double unequal length wish bones. For some reason a lot of people don't grasp the significance of the difference between struts and this configuration.

Anyway, you would need to procure an upright to do a mock-up. I don't think the upright from an ordinary 6 would be any different to the MPS so that may make it easier to find one.
