Default 2XS SSP - Without a Engine mount done :)

This is more for a quick review on Troy's(2XS) Short Shift Plate then anything else.

I installed about a week ago and it felt good, little harder to downshift compared to stock and for first 1 or 2 drives the throw felt shorter. Also when you get it in the gate it feels more secure then the stock version does. But the problem of sometimes missing 3rd or 5th still exists but not any worst then it did from factory. After a lazy week driving the MPS the SSP started to feel normal to me and stock which is a good good thing, obviously its still a shorter throw but you can't mentally/physically tell.

Then after the weekly car wash on the way home, i had a run in with a LS1 VY SS Ute... Needless to say with the mild cam, quad pipe exhaust, high stall and possible OTR/CAI intake, LS1 Edit it was pretty beastly.

End result was him by 2 car lengths, but i bodged the start badly and had some weight on board but not making excuses, the really thing i was impressed with was the gear changes under huge load...
1st - 2nd was lighting quick and direct honestly i thought i hit the gate cause its never felt so quick and strong going into 2nd. Even thou i lost the event i was over the moon with the SSP and the way it changed gears .

Very highly recommend, for the cost and easiness of install very good bang for your buck.

:O really, awesome, you left her in amazing condition i'm over the moon with it (low km's and mint inside and out) definitely have to catch up , Brighton Mazda said you upgraded to a new MPS, that correct?

You still live at the address in the Owners Book, if so a car wash should be do able .

OMG so many questions lmao, never really expected to meet the previous owner haha.

Seconding all that. Recently installed 2XS plate, stock weight, and shifting is bolt action goodness. The only caution I might make is I am concerned I might be pulling it out of first too quickly, with just adds up to being especially aware on the 1-2 shift that you've got you're clutch wholly depressed.

With the 75 duro mount, it can't really be compared to stock. It reminds me a little of the one MX-5 @ mps drive day; probably shorter still. Feels secure, smooth, accurate. Very happy to add to bakis' positive review.

Really Great to hear you say that Nexus. I installed a 75 Duro mount a short time ago and have a 2XS SSP on the way as I type.

My wife has an MX-5 and the gear shift is one of the best bits about the car

It's the kind of result I'm hoping for with my MPS and the reason why I've chosen this combo. Really looking forward to installing it.

    Cheers

I've a JBR plate up for whoever wants it, if they don't have the stock airbox or don't mind lifting the OEM up 0.25" on rubber grommets for clearance. It's got a slightly shorter throw again thanks to engineer not noticing the cable boots rubbing, and retrospectively applying the elevated attachment and airbox grommet lifts in order to prevent the cable boots disintegrating. But it works fine and someone devoid of an OEM airbox might want the shortest shift possible, which it does give. It also has a much lighter weight if someone wants to try that - with 2XS or JB plate.

I'm really stoked with the 2XS unit. w/cpe mount : Bolt action basically says it.

I got a bad start lol, was aiming to launch at 3k or 2.5 but clutch grabbed early then i thought only had like 1.25k on board... Needless to say it bogged down and since im stock and have new KU-36 its sorta just drove off no wheelspin or anything in 1st... ute pulled 1.5 cars length before i hit boost got a light chirp into second but thats it lol. Ute didn't have a full bloody start either he sorta just took of then floored it but a worked V8 would have better low end pull then a mps off boost ... next time thou lol.

I was surprised i only lost by 2 car lengths considering, would of assumed a worked 5.7 would munch me when in reality he would be pulling at least 260rwkw... Next time ill remove my Sub and not have a full take of full and save myself 60kg :P

Yeah, still in Mitcham. Bought a velocity red MPS. Rapt that someone with such passion now has my previous car. I loved that car.......... guess I got sucked in by the bonnet scoop on the new one. I love the new one too!!!

Owned the very first HSV Senator ever built (VP Senator 5000i Prototype) for 13 years prior. Wanted something smaller but full of fun (quicker also!!)

Got 4 grandkids now so probably should act more responsibly......... but what the heck!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Any mid-week evening is fine to catch up (when the rain stops)

    Cheers Bruce

Ok cool, maybe next week if weather clears up just keep an eye open on the forum . I'm positive these Mazda's bring ppl car lovers together consider alot of current owners came from either the Ford side or the Holden Side. I still have a Manual ED Falcon XR6 which is one of only like 700 left in Australia, same as you thou wanted something smaller still fun (in the dry) newer and quick , found that in your old mps.

" i thought i hit the gate cause its never felt so quick and strong"

What does hitting the gate mean???

BTW, when your shifting between gears do you hear the gearbox "clunking" between each shift?? it was noticeable on the stock shifter plate and weight, but i put in JBR one in tonight and the clunking is much more noticeable...

Means you hit the point between gears. Commonly called 'the gate'...

I went and looked at that car at brighton so I could check out the sunroof install. It was in really good shape.

I got one from 2XS as well. Definitely recommended. I'm in bad need of a new engine mount though, still having issues from 2nd to 3rd.

Got mine today and have just installed. Am about to take it out for a quick spin

Even with a stock airbox, which makes things a bit fiddlier, installation was very intuitive and straight forward

Just installed my 2XS SSP today too !

    Wow ..what a difference !!!

The throw is short, compared to the stock throw and not that I have any other car to compare it to.

Nice and tight and direct and the stick actually does feel shorter in height, even though its obviously not. Weird. It may take some getting use to.

Well done 2XS ! A must do mod for every 3MPS owner.

i agree with all positive comments on 2XS's SSP, brilliant mod and when used with the 75 Duro REM the shifts feel so much better. took me couple of days to get used to it but now it feels amazing. rarely i will still miss 3rd, i really cant understand why but yeh lol maybe just laziness on the clutch.
