Thread: MPS Stock Brake Rotor question

    Default MPS Stock Brake Rotor question

    Hey guys

    Quick question for you MPS experts... I took my 6 MPS for a service today , turns out my front rotors are absolutely ****ed and need new ones. I was wondering If the Mazda 6 MPS disc rotors are the same as the normal Mazda 6 rotors?

    That way it will be easier and cheaper to find a replacement..

    Cheers in advance.

    DBA 4000 series (I think mate) Chris (Shakespeare) had DBA replacement rotors on his. Don't worry too much, mine and Toddy's front rotors are wearing too, will need a replacement sometime. Feel free to have a shop around but to get an idea check here mazda-6-mps-brakes I wouldn't get Mazda rotor's personally, it's probably cheaper and better to get aftermarket rotors. The standard 6 might have the same rotors yes, but I think the Callipers differ on the MPS

    I don't think MPS rotors are the same as a regular 6. You can buy DBA rotors, either std series or 4000 series, from just about any auto parts store. From a performance perspective, the DBA standard series rotors are perfectly adequate regardless of how fast you dive it.

    There's you answer rayd! I know the callipers are different but wasn't sure on the rotors. I have a couple of snaps of the standard 6 rotors if that helps

    Different diameters front and back

    2005 MPS 6 - From my Manual = 320mm front, 314mm rear.

    2005 Mazda 6 - From brake disc suppliers = 11.1" or 281mm front, 11.0" or 279.4mm rear

    Ask Greg from GSL Rally Sport.
    I am sure he will look after you, and knows his stuff.

    Does anyone know the minimum rotor thinkness for the MPS?

    This is the specs for both 3 and 6 mps.

    Minimum front disc plate thickness:
    23 mm {0.91 in}
    Minimum front disc plate thickness after machining using a brake lathe on-vehicle
    23.8 mm {0.94 in}

    Minimum read disc plate thickness:
    9 mm {0.35 in}
    Minimum rear disc plate thickness after machining using a brake lathe on-vehicle
    9.8 mm {0.39 in}

    Min pad thickness is a scary 2mm.

    That certainly is scary. I'll stick to changing the pads when pad thickness equals backing plate thickness.

    Just a cautionary note: Rotors should have the minimum thickness stamped on them somewhere and that's the value that matters. There's an outside chance it could be different to OEM values if the rotor is from a different manufacturer.
