how many crashs are cuz by tired drives? if its safe to raise the speed means less drives on the road, proven fact longer ur on the road more chance of being involved in a accident...! 20kph faster over say 6hrs =120ks more travelled......................................... ......................... or time saved so ur off the road sooner, less tired drivers on the road..

if ur watching ur speedo how can u be fully aware whats happening on the road?
Many want Power not many hold it long.........

If that's true and the road toll went down, it would be because drivers are watching the road instead of their speedo. Driver distraction causes more crashes then speeding imo.

    hmmm, i found this article:
    http://www.infrastructure.gov.au/roa...pdf/rsr_04.pdf
NT deaths have gone up since the unrestricted limits were removed, but most of the increase was in <60 km/hr crashes (unfortunately...)
there is some other interesting statistics in that report tho

Hole in one, I would suggest. Less speedo watching, more attention on the road. Less distraction, less angst.
Appears to be a legit story, it's being reported quite widely by trusted sources.

Lies damn lies and statistics? Too soon to tell with certainty, really. The real test is statistics over 5 years. At this stage one could call it a good year. After 5, you can't put it down to a statistical blip.

But it's an encouraging first year for swindon. If I recall it's a much more onerous regime of cameras in the UK, and so speedo watching and angst would be quite a lot higher there than it is here. We have it pretty good in comparison.

The complaints by UK councils over the loss of revenue from the Road Safety Grant being cut is what has lead to this.

I think it's obvious myself that authoritarian government factions greedy for revenue will always campaign the FOR case for speed cameras. We use fear as a means of keeping everybody in line. After a while, the means becomes the end, and there's no comparisons done to confirm that the cameras improvew things as they are supposed to, and by the time you want to do a control test, you can't because they're everywhere, so at that stage, those for just campaign the FOR camera case without actually having any data to say it works : It's simply promoted as being obvious that it does, but nobody really knows for sure because NOBODY HAS DONE A CONTROL TEST.

Now that UK councils have been gypped on revenue, and some decide to shut them down, we get our first real control test; first chance to seperate the propoganda from facts.

It doesn't really compare to QLD camera regimes, but it's interesting none-the-less.

Just the fact that so many people read it and think it's a joke or can't possibly be true demonstrates the extent to which mind control influences their opinion and not objective analysis. OMG it's not a JOKE!
But don't get your knickers ina twist just yet. Stats need to hold for another year or two at least.

    Default No joke!

Why death rates INCREASED in 20mph zones... and getting rid of cameras reduces accidents

Reducing the speed limit to 20mph in all residential streets does not significantly improve road safety, an official report has revealed.
Towns around the country are planning to introduce the limit in the belief that lower speeds save lives.
However, analysis of the first citywide scheme in Portsmouth has shown the number of people killed or seriously injured actually increased after the speed limit was reduced from 30mph.
    ...
Roderick Bluh, leader of the Tory-controlled council, said: 'it is beginning to look as though we were right all along when we said these cameras were revenue raisers.'
