Thread: Brakes.... Or lack of them..

  1. #1

Default Brakes.... Or lack of them..

    Hey all,

I recently changed my front brake setup to DBA slotted and QFM HPX street performance pads and my brakes are not impressive to say the least......

The pedal is really spongey (the system has been bled a number of times with no resulting bubbles)

The pads just don't seem to bite very well (completed bedding cycle as per described at the following site: Instructions for bedding in your brakes)

The brake pedal is now like a squishy ball..... not a lot of confidence in this system now.... The brakes use to be brilliant with the old setup.

Any ideas what has gone wrong????

From a few bits and pieces I have heard, more performance orientated type pads can take quite some time to properly bed in.

I am talking along the lines of 200-500km's of driving.

Dont quote me on that, but could be the issue with yours.

Little Miss Red I had my brake fluid replaced 5000k's ago and still use the same rotors and pads and it felt spongey for a couple of days and feels good now.......

I had the same set-up & waited for around 1000k's for bedding in & so on, still not impressed.

I changed my pads front & rear to Hawke Ceramics. Absolutely what I expected & stops on a dime. I found the build quality far better than the QFM HPX and I wont from these for a while.

I purchased front & rears for just over $330.

Hama3, how good are they from cold? What's the brake dust like with the ceramics? And how hard are they on the rotors?

    Thanks,

    Leon

, geez. For some reason in my head I read your name as littleMISSredmps.... Very sorry mate. I was very tired this morning when thanking you for your reply (no weird nicknames intended).

In other news my brakes are slowly getting better. I'm thinking a new set of factory pads if it doesn't deliver real braking soon!

Jace is a top chick though! lol

Mate, wouldn't suggest oem pads with performance discs, they will just end up as dust and block the slots withing a week lol!

    Velocity Red,

These babies are awesome either cold or warm, makes no difference. I have been advised that there is vertually no dust & are very kind to rotors. Well as kind as can be, for there has to be some wear & tear

So far, I have to say this has been the case.

Thanks mate for the feedback, it's much appreciated. I have seen mixed reviews of these pads so will be keen to check back with you when you have had them on your car for a while.

    Regards,

    Leon

I've been driving non stop for the past few days with city driving, country driving, motorway driving and I can say that while the brakes have improved and the pedal has firmed up a little..... I am no impressed with the bite of these pads.

I'm thinking of trying some bendix pads that have the titanium instant bedding feature. Are these any good?

I just want brakes that respond when the pedal is pressed... a nice bite. I don't need high heat handling pads... just a road car.
