Thread: They have ARRIVED!!!! Ford Focus RS

    Quote re the RS:
With 224 kW and 440 Nm from a 2.5-litre, turbocharged five cylinder driving through a RevoKnuckle ( is this??) front wheel-drive system, the Focus is a formidable road hugging street weapon. 0-100Km/h will arrive in 5.9 seconds.

So tell me, how does something the weight of an MPS3, reporting more power and torque from a bigger capacity engine than a stock MPS6, only manage to run 1-0-100 in 5.9s? I can achieve that now in my MPS6, carrying around 1640kg. Someone's in the marketing department is telling porkies - maybe that explains the monniker "RS".
CP_e Standback & PNP; CP_e 3" SS Downpipe; Corksport FMIC with Top-mount K&N filter & OEM Ram CAI; Turbosmart BOV; Dashhawk; Prosport Boost Guage; JBR solid shift bushes; DBA 4000 Wiper-Slot front rotors; Hawk Ferro-Carbon HPS Street front brake pads (@ 69,000km); Sumitomo HTRZIII's in 225/45 x 18

RevoKnuckle - Renault are now using this too, reduces torque steer on Hi-Po FWD cars

The performance times are at 5.9 secs due to traction issues I'm not sure if any official tests have shown much better, however some tests (can't remember which) put the in gear acceleration of the RS as being simply ballistic, I'd buy one simply for the exhaust note of the 5 pot and the RS monniker (loved my RS Escort and still have fond memories!)
    R36 - Just like an MPS6 except with a growly V6

And 165 MPH.....isn't that fast enough for ya?

It's plenty fast mate, and where it counts..in the twisties..

Until you've driven a Quaifed Revo knuckled car, i don't think your qualified to comment.

Don't be a hater....I appreciate all cars..I'm not here to wind the Mazda boys up..

I will call a good car when I see one or work on one..

    I don't care who make's it.

Frankly, for 1.5 times the cost of an MPS3. No it isn't good enough for me.

In a money is not an object situation, sure its a nice *looking* car.

Contrary to popular belief we're not a buch of Ford haters over here mate, plenty of us have shown interest in the higher powered models (read FPV).

It just takes more than justan extra cylinder and some hot bodywork to get me excited, especially when the premium bumps you firmly outside of the range of a an "affordable" car. Never mind what it's going to cost to keep....

It's fast Barnesy I know what it feels like doing 280k's in Cols MPS3 and we backed off at that he wanted to better than his 305k's previous run, but not with me in the car

Firstly, Ya can't compare an MPS3 to an RS...(Different category)

Secondly, MPS are a mass produced car which have sold thousands in this country.yeah.

You can compare an XR5(ST) to an MPS.....They are both 4 door hot hatches...

RS is in a league of it's own, still individually hand built , and yeah your right, FMC would have bumped the price of the RS simply for the exclusevity rights of owning one of the 318 to ever reach our shores.

If you look at the 28000 BP price tag in the UK..The dollar exchange with luxury tax still doesn't add up to $66000 Ozzie kahunas....

I will still reserve all final comments till I drive one in 3 weeks time, but from what I've read, it will be sensational.

Of course can compare them, the Focus is marketed squarely at the "Hot Hatch" market no different from the Mazda3. Not to mention why would we even have this thread if it wasn't in some way comparable to what we all have now?

    My points remain:

    A. Ford are tossing another hot hatch into the mix, power to them it *looks* nice
    B. Ford are asking a massive preium for a car that on paper barely outperforms other cars in the same market which can be had for ~60% of the cost
    C. Ford are trading on the RS badge which holds historical significance, but they're aren't doing anything to add to that history, this RS (on paper) does not do enough to warranty the awesomeness of an RS badge.
    D. Bringing only ~300 of these into the country is an attempt to preserve the significance of the RS heritage because Ford already know that the metal it's attached to does not deserve it.

This is another marketing gimmick from a failing auto company in financial disarray. Unfortunately nothing will bring back the Escort RS.

    </Rant>

None of the above makes any sense because you haven't driven one yet, and neither have I...

I do know these cars have a real soul, and that I feel I am qualified to say since I have driven and owned over 70 vehicles over the past 33 years, hot and not so hot.The base model XR5 has a soul compared to my WRX that I owned, Hot Toranas, XU1's SLR's, XY 351's etc.

The XR5 is the smaller derivative of the RS and fitted with the smaller light pressure turbo and 65 killerwasps less power, and they feel like a real drivers car to me.

The XR5(ST) is the vehicle that is mass produced as is the MPS, and is compared to as a 4 door hatch...

The RS is a 2 DOOR hot hatch which comes with some pretty well recognised and tested credentials.

No one said anything about the mismanagement at FMC, nor of their decline...

That is a frustrating part of working for and representing a company that has supported the Ozzie way of life and employed thousands of Aussies and I find that is truly just plain tragic.

This is pure unadultaerated history with an RS coming to this country..

Ppl have been knocking FMC's door down for over 3 years to get this model here..

I ain't gunna whine about that decision now.

    Here here!!!

    Compare apples to apples.

It will hold its own in the twisties. Anyone can drive fast in a straight line, but its in the twisties that we sort the men from the Mazda drivers (oops only joking)

I think it has been longer Barnesy that people have been harrassing FOMOCO over them. And keep in mind that the new Focus will be the same as the MPs after next year which will be a shame.

The only good things that come in 2litres are milk and juice..

Lucky an MPS comes in 2.3L then...

Shame the focus and golf etc are 2.0L

    Happy Motoring

Yeah but you had to stretch your motor out so it could run the bus..the CX7 and 9...

The Golf, the Renualt, the Focus, and Bits are missing and all the others will have 2.0 litre.

The Mazda will have the 2.3. I suppose its has to, given its mind numbing, and face splitting ugliness (yep even yours Dougie)

    4 potters....

I reckon it will not be too far away before Mazda are running a 2l again aswell... Most likely the Ford 2l since they rarely have any original ideas
