Excellent tutorial. Used the part specific to getting RCA out of the factory harness. Eliminated double amping as well as static noise.
Didn't bother with twisted pairs as my local JayCar didn't have any in stock. Still works a treat!
I'm heaps chuffed with the outcome. Thanks again
Which dash surround kit was used? I can only find these two:

Wow, those are expensive. I have one of these but I haven't installed it yet.
Metra and scosche also make them fairly cheap

Excellent tutorial, best walk-through i have found on the 3 MPS on the web!!
I know this is a old thread, but it would be appreciated if someone could help with one query. The Metra harness 70-7903 does not seem to have any wires for the SWC controls - so where do we tap the wires on the SWC adaptor into? Do we have to tap into the wiring behind the vehicle-side 24-pin harness?
FYI i am not using a 3rd party harness as most do, as the new Kenwood stereos have a inbuilt "direct-OEM steering wheel control" feature. An adaptor is provided with a 3.5mm stereo plug (that connects into the aftermarket HU) and a few wires out the back, which i presume connect into existing wiring on the car.
My stereo is a Kenwood DDX7016BT.. Any help is appreciated
Hi Neil, happened to drop by the forums to see your question. When I installed a SWC I had to tap into the wiring harness and the main speedo dash. The Metra kit doesn't have provisions other than the basics. I recall successfully wiring the SWC but couldn't figure out which was a speed sensor. I scoured all over the web for info but didn't seem to work what ever suggestions I came across.
You want this one which is a genuine mazda part https://www.japanparts.com/parts/detail/23091
the other one you posted is not a mazda part and contains other parts which is not required. Having said that, the price is virtually the same.
yea its expensive, but the fit and finish is perfect on the mazda part. THe gloss black also went with the MY08 finish
Cool, thanks very much for the response lup15 Just one clarification though - when you say you tapped into the main speedo dash, i presume this is becuase your HU had some provision to display your speed? If i don't intend to have the speed displayed on the HU, i don't need to worry about this right?
