Thread: Silver or Black?

  1. Default Silver or Black?

This is a question of FMIC colour.

Should I go with a black powder coat? Or leave it silver?

My car is black with all the badges blacked out.

Would making the FMIC black add to the look or would silver be better?

Please vote and add reasons why.

Please do not use cost as a reason. I am aware that getting it powder coated will cost me extra.

Ive voted for black as it looks like u have pretty much gone for the stealth look and it would continue that theme rather than making a feature of it ... unless of cause thats what u want and for ppl to notice as u drive past that u have a FMIC

I voted black for technical reasons, but I also think it would look better.

I personally think black...for the theme and stealth look..as you did you badges black.

But if as said...you want a stand out feature or look at my FMIC wank factor...go silver.

    why black or silver ??

why not like a flame sort of painted on thing... haha... stencil it out.... fire breathing beast.. !!

nah serious just black.... cause silver is done...

The wheels are normally a charcoal colour. Painted by brake dust.

I think the all black with just the silver wheels is a good look. Makes the wheels stand out more. If I was to paint the rims I would put a red pinstripe around them just for a contrast.

If you go to StreetUnit I think their cars are too black and need a little colour.

thanks for the replies so far. Keep them coming in.

I'm not too sure whether powder coating will do any good in radiating heat. Maybe a high heat proof spray paint? Something a bit thinner?

Go for 50/50 like this anonymous person here, flat black end tanks, and silver core, its noticable if you know what it is, but doesn't look all riced up.

There is also an ongoing debate about whether or not painting the core will affect its heat transfer properties, i.e the paint / powdercoat acts as a thermal barrier between the oncoming air and the core.

Don't coat it. There' no question about it - it WILL impede heat transfer. Simple physics.

Sure you can choose a coating that affects heat transfer less, but any coating is going to effect the efficiency. The best you can hope for is that the coating only makes a minimal difference, or maybe find something ($$$$) that aids heat transfer - I doubt you'll be able to find that at a sane price.

All I need now is some money... Then I could get this done in black or silver!

Go for black! Keep with the stealth theme.

By the way, I kinda like the StreetUnit all-black rides.

    Simple physics, definately.

The real question should be whether its noticeable or even measurable on a dyno (butt or mechanical) and track/street, I would seriously doubt it.

I have plenty of friends with black intercoolers, including a couple of pulsar's that run in the low 12/ high 11 bracket (God knows they generate enough heat) and has ZERO adverse affects on performance.
^^^The message is up there stupid^^^
