Default Replacement Batteries... What have you used?

    Hi Team..

My Factory Panasonic Battery just aint cutting it for me...

I want to go something bigger Cold Cranking Amps wise...

What have you people done in regards to bigger/better (not necessarily bigger )

I was hoping to source something with 600 + CCA i hate not being able to leave my radio on for more than 5 minutes and having to worry about not being able to start the car

The Factory Battery Seems to be a 55D23L

ive found other batterys that have more CCA and still fit in the box.. but they all seem just a little bit toooo short (heigh wise) to re use the factory Retainer..

(Not that im not capable of making my own... but if anyone else has already been down this road.. would love them to share )

I recently replaced the factory battery and after a lot of reasearch chose the Exide Extra. It's a high capacity Australian battery that fits perfectly in the cradle.

I had a close look at the various dry cell batteries, and decided that their extremely high price did not justify their small advantages. Not only that, the dry cell types have an awful lot of disadvantages. Operationally they are poor at cold cranking compared to a traditional lead acid type, they need specialist equipment to be brought back to life if they discharge too much, but the real killer is the very high failure rate.

The Exide Extra has performed well and there is no noticeable reducting in cranking ability even on minus 2 degree mornings. When I recently left the interior light on for a week and completely discharged the battery, it was a simple matter of jump starting the car and driving around for a while to recharge it. I was very glad I chose not to buy a dry cell.

It's not so much a bigger battery that gives the extra performance, it's just that it's a new battery. You just get back the amps that the old battery has lost.

Interesting thing on batteries, a lot of different brands are made by the same company. Just different stickers.
Recommendation is to buy one with the best warranty, and as long as it's what the manufacturer recomends, that's all that matters.

While I completely Agree with you there bd581,

I do love having the extra Amps available so I can have a few Extra Accesories etc, and what now

Cost isnt really a object, I get Tools and most maintenance parts for vehicles for "Free" so to speak.. The battery if I had to pay for it... would have been around 80 NZD...

This was more or less just a heads up to people looking for more CCA that isnt available in the factory 55D23L

Exactly right about the extra performance...you can actually get rid of that lag or dimming with just a ground point upgrade (The Big Three, google it)
    Not Gone...just "busy"
