Lightbulb Modding stock MPS3??? RECOMENDATIONS PLZ?????

Hello all got my MPS3 about 8 months ago now. Very used to her now and think its time to start making it even more fun!! Next few months Id like to get FMIC, full exhaust and then boosed n tuned up FMIC what brand have you gone with and how much power gain should I get?? I also hear people are running 18psi is that safe or will It do damage ???? Any info would be appreciated. Lacey

    gen 1 or 2???
Not much of an option for FMIC for a Gen 2 yet. CP-E and Corksport are both working on one.
The 'Ultimate racing' one looks nice tough http://www.ultimate-racing.com/Produ...ed3_FMIC.shtml

Which state are you from? It might be worth starting with that so you can find out a good supplier for the mods.

Mine is a 6 MPS but what you are proposing is a pretty well worn route by many 3 MPS on the forum.

From my time on the forum I have found the following:

INTERCOOLER - may be worth having a look at TallDan's post regarding the intercooler by 2XS. Seems to be a good result. Others on the forum may be able to point you to a commercial product if you aren't in Brisbane. I think 2XS uses a PWR core?

TURBO - It seems to be that most people aggree that the standard turbo doesn't have much up it's sleeve as it runs at 16psi stock and increaseing it above 18psi doesn't seem to acheive much. I haven't heard any failures due to boosting to 18psi.

EXHAUST - I got about 20kw atw from my turbo back exhaust (dyno sheet posted last week) and it has added a good note to the car. It opened up the top end a little but not as much as a flash tune.

FLASHTUNE - This was the best mod and acheived the biggest difference (see dyno sheet again for before and after). The top end is now awesome instead of disappointing. At 1/3 the cost of the exhaust it is great bang for your buck, however you really need to be paitient to finish all your other mods before doing it.

    Good luck with it mate.

    Hey Lacey,

Best engineers and turner for the Northside is Allstar Tuning Systems. They look after the MPS race car and also will give you good prices if you say you are part of the OzMPSClub
They use Haltech for their after market ECU options.

And for the Southside there are a few, but they are down the Goldy way. ChipTorque at Nerang and APC-Racing at Underwood..

    Hey mate,

Good to hear you're going with some mods for the beast! Plenty of potential and the sound will be great. Before I go into much detail, I've made a few comments on the links below, related to what you're thinking of doing to your 3. Maybe have a read and also see the other comments posted on those threads for a bit more info.

Not sure if you're aware of MPS Garage for info and pricing on parts that may help you out to get an idea or make a start on what you want to achieve with your vehicle.

Ideally, you want a decent intake system, either CAI or SRI, with an optional and recommended addtion of a TIP to give you good flow (least resistance) into the turbo.

Once happy with a decent amount of air flow, I would say step 1 complete and you vehicle is now pepped and ready to receive additional mods. If you seek a FMIC you would be looking at a higher boost pressure. The stock turbo I believe is not really efficient after 18psi. So you may want to consider upgrading the turbo to give you optimal results that best compliment the rest of your mods. Be careful though because a lot of members have had or are having problems and 'white smoke issues' due to the crappy turbo seals. My mates running a ETC TMIC and having turbo problems as his seals are stuffed. He was getting peak boost over 22psi which may have caused it.

Once you got that sorted you would most likely want to look into the exhaust. A catback system I believe will give you a minimal increase (great sound) in performance but I would advise a 3" mandrel or similar into a preferred muffler. Your increase will be the downpipe. This will give you less restriction and a nice flow through. Check out CP-E downpipe for info and power figures etc.

At that point you should have a decent intake, FMIC, Turbo? and Exhaust, (if you wish throw in a new rear engine mount) now you would be ready for a tune. A tune will give you the best performance to suit and compliment your installed mods. I would say an increase of at least 20-30kW (I've never had a tune so that's a guess)

Check out this for info if you like Tunehouse message Jess to get an idea on things if you like, then find a place near you (Not too sure as I am in WA)

Provided the tuning goes all good, you would want to look into a decent suspension setup to keep that power on the ground and make her more stable (and safe) on the road. You may want to look at just springs, or if you have a little more coin, a coilover setup and suspension strut bracing. Possibly some fatter tyres (rims), being FWD I'm not sure how much traction you get now?? But that might be an option. I got AWD so I got the standard 215's no problem. If you require more info on suspension and the likes, this is a pretty detailed write up.

    suspension-theory-basics

Hopefully that's a bit of info and also more contained in the attached links, any more questions, just post them up! Just keep in mind how much power and torque you're running after all the proposed mods and what the stock internals can handle. You may want to consider forged rods and/or pistons if you're near 20psi @ over 450Nm? Check 2XS or YOU LOSE, I believe they have a few horses and can advise you on any problems (if any) or more accurate advise on mods.

With great power comes great fuel consumption...

    Lacie,

Personally I went for a tune at Chiptorque rather than AllStar Tuning as Chiptorque do a flash tune which unlocks the power drop off at the top end (interceptors can't do this). It's about the same price as the Haltech option and doesn't put any cuts in your loom.

I am Brisbane Southside as well (and so is 2XS who makes his own stuff, PM him for intercooler) and I get my car serviced at APC in Springwood. I have found them good so far but haven't had any mods done by them.

My exhaust was done at Custome Exhaust Specialists , they do awesome stuff (2XS used to work there) but they are very expensive. You may find cheaper options.

If you have any other questions then please ask. Good luck with it.

Don't waste money with a FMIC. A good TMIC will do just as well. I have the ETS which was responsible for about 16wkw Hyperflow one of the site sponsors also makes a very tasty TMIC for our cars I would assume it would be just as good if not better.

As you are in Queensland I would go with a flash tune (Chiptorque) if you lived outside of Queesnland I would go with Xede (Chiptorque) or Standback (CPE) and take the drive across town or whatever to get a CES TBE and SRI, make sure the TMIC is already fitted and be ready to receive your car back with 225wkw. $5000 for 50 - 90 wkw or 68 - 122 whp. ($2500 for TBE, $400 for Ceramic SRI, $1000 for TMIC, $1000 for flash)

    That is value for money.

Then you need to ensure you can put the power down, so get some good coils. I do recommend the H&R's I run, coupled with some good sway bars which would have to be whiteline you have handling almost sorted. My car tripods going into almost any driveway with H&R front and rear swaybars which they no longer produce. Some tasty lightweight rims would be the next call in the handling and performance stakes. The lighter the mass being turned the less force needed to turn them also works in reverse so you will accelerate and stop faster, hell it even works for cornering... But before you get rims I'd get my fenders pulled front and rear so I could fit some 9.5 rims and 245+ tyres as that much power just overwhelms the front tyres when it is even almost damp. Now you are out to $12,500 to $17,500 total spend (this excludes the cost of new wider tyres)... Then you will also have other incidentals like engine mounts, short shifters, BP only fuel runs...

To answer one of your questions 18psi has been safe in my car for 12 months.

TMIC at $700 vs the CPE FMIC at $1700. I don't rate the other systems. The CPE is my pick for FMIC - 2XS's may be cheaper but I don't know his price.

The TMIC will win for me all day. No way a FMIC can be $1000 better!

    PG FMIC pipes = $250 USD + $40 USD for shipping = $340 AUD

CX racing core = $150 AUD delivered

its actually a well made core.. all nice welds, full bar and plate core, cast end tanks..

it defiantly adds up to me......

    Mounting brackets? hardware?

And PG takes 6 months to send anything too!

Then Doc, I stand corrected. I will still not order anything from PG. Had my original Cobb intake on order from them for 4 months and nothing happened. Then it took me 2 months to get my money back!

Got onto The RPM Store and it arrived in 2 weeks.
