Ha, yes, 3071 is also a good sized turbo, but 2871 is too small for a 2.3 to make real power. My brother has a 2.0 Litre evo with a 3076, spools a little late, luckily the mazda is a 2.3, makes it spot on. If your gunna go to the effort of replacing your turbo, do it properly. Lag isn't nessicarily bad, means you can drive your car off boost far easier.

so does the 3071 or 2871 bolt strait up or is that a manifold job?????
-
All the Garrett Turbo's have a different bolt pattern to the standard MPS turbo, so yes, in the same boat as the 3076.

ATP make bolt on 2871 3071 3076 and 3571's for the MPS.. reuse your manifold and your downpipe...
however the oil lines and what not are usually a little tricky so im told.
Im going to be getting the k04 rebuilt with either gt28 or 30 ball bearing internals which I have been told is defiantly do-able... This will only be fitted after the warranty totally runs out in a few months.
