    Default Dealership servicing?

    Yo,

I have my Gen II on order now and of course had the dealership pushing to have the car serviced with them, their servicing schedule is running at about $500-700 a year at 6 monthly service intervals.

Probably more expensive than a local mechanic, but my question is how much more. In this particular case if I do my servicing through them they will add their own 3 year warranty onto the end of the factory one, taking it up to 6 years total.

The idea of a 6 year warranty is very appealing but what kind of price difference are we talking here if I was to take it to a local mechanic?

for me it is worth the extra dough for the added 'unwritten' benefit it gives you like the extra warranty, knowing they will bend over backwards to try and help you out with warranty repairs, giving you a acar when you are really stuck, coming to pick you up in the rain if you need it, giving you good prices on any future cars, letting you know of any inisde news they may have, people recognising and greeting you whenever you go into the dealer.

I dont know what the price difference is, but to me it doesnt matter

    Blackbetty,
I understand what your saying as this is the case sometimes. I remember being told this from a dealer then when i sold the car i was told they would do me the best deal on my new car. Guess what the dealership in the next suburb was able to give me the car cheaper even though i had never dealt with them before. All the positives you mentioned are not in writing and there for canot be expected or taken as a given.

one thing that is given though is that servicing your car elsewhere generally will lead to you having more cash in your pocket and the 3 year warranty will still be as good as ever.

Im not saying do this or that but at the end of the day I decided not service my car at mazda as the 5-6 dealers i rang couldnt tell me what oil they used or anything like that. It only takes a second year apprentice to put the 15w-40 in it to piss me off.

A good local trusted mechanic i believe will look after your car more then a dealer and you have more control over the parts used or preference

Find a dealer with a team that knows what they are doing. That's your best bet cause you get the best service and all the perks.

I had my car serviced at grand prix mazda caboolture and they were great, 190 dollars for the service (10000 km) and it was prompt and they gave me a loan car and free wiper blades!!

Just shop around and find someone reliable, even if it costs you more.

Thanks Agree totally skimping on a few dollars is not always a saving .. like skimping on tyres

yep if my local mazda charged $190 for a 10k service i would go there, my 10k service cost $380 which is ridiculous.

I went to a local repco for my 20k and provided the oil $120 and exactly the same work done. although a new performance auto shop has just opened and have seen heaps of wrx's there, will be going there next. look for shops that are busy !!!always a good sign.

Can your local mechanic do the Mazda software updates? I started off getting my car serviced using the dealer I bought it from (to get the additional 3 year warranty) but their customer service was so appalling that I switched to my local mazda service centre.

Blackbetty - wow. I've never ever heard of a dealer picking someone up in the rain to collect their car. Never encountered a Mazda dealer who wanted to do work under warranty either. I might be unlucky - or you might be lucky.

maybe Im just lucky and the exception to the rule with my experience, in the end do whatever you want to do its your car

This is the most important point.

Also, some car manufacturers (possibly Mazda included) use specialist gear to zone in exact issues and log the history over time. If you go elsewhere they might miss stuff.
I also don't see the point in initally shelling out thousands of dollars buying the car and then not forking out around 1% of that cost for a clean bill of health for your car.

major services I'd take it to mazda but for a oil and filter change I don't reckon it really matters

Dealer Servicing is the only way to go for me, why risk something going wrong with your car and then trying to get it fixed under warranty and then get told by Mazda that you have voided your warranty because you went elsewhere....FARK that

I just had my 50,000km service yesterday at ASPLEY GRANDPRIX and it cost $260 and i got an awesome Silver Maz2 genki to drive around for the day

They look after me and my car and i wouldnt dream of going anywhere else, LOVE YOU GUYS

go to mazda.com.au > locate dealers and call the ones closest to you for some prices.. with a mps i think its vital to get mazda to service it.. i reckon with a standard mazda 3 or 6 you could get away with local mechanics..

i know when i am going to start looking at buy a gen2 mps3 i won't consider one that does not have full mazda service history..

whatever you decide to do lets be clear "SERVICING YOUR CAR AT ANOTHER WORKSHOP WILL NOT VOID YOUR WARRANTY"
as some people are indicating you might not be covered under warranty we need to clear that up.

however you services it at the end of the day quality parts and someone that knows what they are doing will get the job done.

Yea you wont void your warranty, but a lot of dealers (like mine) offer an extended warranty if you do your servicing with them. and that is lost if you go elsewhere after the factory warranty is over.

That's why I get the boys at Allstar Tuning to service my car because they go over it and check things out that play up on the race car....

Yeh that's why the Mitsubishi Pajero goes to their service dept with the 5year warranty .

I have the same thing Reedy but if yours is the same as mine its worth bugger all. They will only pay upto $500 of any claim. so if you blow a turbo a genuine turbo plus labour will be $2K plus they will only pay$500 and you have to foot the difference.

If it was a genuine new car warranty extension i would have been more motivated to get it serviced at the dealer but after reading the terms and conditions i laughed.
