Interested to hear your thoughts about whether Mazda could/should sell more Mazda3 MPS. e.g. Is it under rated? Is the current styling too close to the SP23?

Not interested in hearing "it needs AWD" as the Golf, Focus and Civic all do without and still manage to outsell the Mazda3 MPS.

One reason for the lower sales figures of the 3MPS is they were in runout.

Focus is a new model (LV)

Golf GTI is always a strong seller, original and benchmark of the hot hatches.

No idea why the Type R is selling well...its rubbish.

Astra SRi Turbo is only the regular version...not the HSV VXR.

Now....I think the MPS was styled too bland and not too different from the 3 range...

Buyers had little understanding at what the MPS was....and still many dont know 3 years on.

I think the new fresh model...will increase sales dramatically...being 2nd Gen...it will be better known and look more aggressive and sporty.

Thanks for the data Mazda Guru...

Many a debates are too be had.

    Happy Motoring

I agree with you Duglet, Mazda needs to build awareness of the MPS name. It's such a shame that the Mazda6 MPS was dropped when the nameplate was in its infancy.

I've added the HSV VXR to the figures above.

I agree too, the 3MPS needs to stand out from it's siblings, at the moment the differences are subtle (still a great looking car though!) Originally Mazda kept the 6MPS conservative in styling, whereas the 3MPS was meant to appeal to the younger market and look tougher? They could have gone stronger with the styling - not WRX styled bonnet holes, but maybe a larger bonnet hump? Old Aston Martins used to have this named, "The Power Bulge" that's also one of my favourite styling pieces of the 6MPS.

I had a SP23 with all the bells and whistles...... Well the missus did anyway...... I hated it and while she said she was happy with it, she regularly took my XR5 and left the SP23 at home...... Traded it after only 4 months for the second XR5....
