    Default Service

    Hi guys.

I bought my 07 MPS 3 second hand about 5 months ago. It seems like the previous owner serviced the car every 6 months regardless of kilometres. It's due for a 34,000km service and apparently this one is a major service. Does this sound right to you guys? Apparently it's never had a major service done before. How often are major services?

    Thanks.

Owners manual is your friend..... Its shows what is done at scheduled services.
No such thing as a 34k service. This may just be the current k's you are at when due for your next service.
    40k is a major service.

The thing is the previous owner didn't drive the car much but serviced it every 6 months anyway. The service book has about 5 stamps on it. I'm pretty sure they have all been minor. It's all a bit confusing since the previous owner didn't service it every 10,000.

Every 40,000 is a major just had my 80,000 yesterday $$$$.
Change oil and filter every 5,000 in between.

In the manual it states what needs replacing at what intervals in a table-like form. Don't understand why the previous owner had it serviced so frequently, usually cars require a service every 10,000-15,000kms I suppose this could change depending on conditions of driving? I would say the previous owner was either over protective of the car, or had lots of spare cash to service frequently! Technically based on the average kilometres a vehicle travels in a year, 6 month would be about right (20-25,000kms a year)

IMO in all depends on what you think needs to be done on a major. Engine-wise, fair enough get what is necessary, but if the brakes, suspension etc is all ok, leave it for next service. No point getting pads changed just cause the book says so or there's plenty of meat left on the pad. I usually only get engine work done by a mechanic. Anything else I see a specialist for like Midas for brakes (in the hope they machine the disc and generally do a better, more experienced job) I think the guys are write though 40,000kms service sounds like the major to me. Check the oil, filter, coolant etc (see manual) yourself and if ok, keep driving until 40,000kms (or 38,000kms if you're worried) and get the major done then.

Every 6 months or 10,000kms which ever comes first. That is the Mazda service schedule :-)
