Car Model: Mazda 3 MPS Gen 1

    Tyre Brand/Model/Size: Sumitomos HTZIII 225/45/18
Tyre Cost: 245-265 each fitted and balanced (exact number i forget)
    Value: 8
Performance: 7 in the dry, 5 in the wet
Likes: Road noise is less than stock, good grip in the dry, predictable when pushing hard
Dislikes: some aquaplaning in the wet, less than decent grip in the wet

Wear: Finally, 40,000km and my fronts are now around 20% with the rears having 50%. Very Good wear

Impressions: Good value tire just be wary when driving in the rain. Road noise is better than the stock tyres. Wear is good but needs constant rotation (i do mine every 5000kms)

Thanks Mel. No accident that Michellins continue to be the best tyre; their R&D, corporate knowledge and manufacturing all contribute to the result. Good to see the Sumitomos remain good value. Wish they included a Pirelli and the new Toyo T1 Sport in the test. Notice the Crapstones were outperformed by a chinese tyre in several categories - no surprise for a company that spends more on slick advertising than on R&D.

    Brand:Michelin
    Model: Pilot Sport 3
    Price (fitted/unfitted): $350 a corner
    Bought from: Bob Jane T-Mart
    Size: 225/40/18
    Value 10/10:
    Performance 10/10:
Likes: Not had a chance to test them in the wet and have only driven 50k's so far, but with the stock tires I would get loss of traction if gunning it in 2nd, I don't anymore. Plenty of grip in the corners, they don't let go. Apparently better in the wet, but not had a chance to test yet. On first impressions, they are awesome.

I'm replacing my last 2 Adrenalin RE001's now - They were on the fronts and cycled to the rears after 30000KMs and 3 trackdays + 2 skidpan days.

Now at 35000KMs' and 4 trackdays + 2 skidpan days and they're at the wear markers.

If you can get them in your budget well worth it, i'd think. Another level above the PS2 and since that was already 2nd best on the market in that area i'd believe the super sports would be the best tyre (review wise) out there now

Bought these to replace my 18" Toyo R1R and wanted the best road tyre possible that occationally would see track day action, i have not been dissapointed. They demand high pressure even on track (40PSI hot) but they could keep up with stripped out BMW's and Clio Cup racers at Donington, and afterwards they comfortably transported 3 people and luggage across UK and half way across Europe without having lost any of their handling or quiet behaviour. Best road tyre money can buy. Still a lot of tread left.

Have tried Conti Sports, Goodyear F1s, Michelin PS2s this tyre eclipes them all by a good margin in all areas. Dry grip is the best I have ever experienced to the degree that understeer is almost eliminated! I would highly recommend this tyre and I will be buying another set.

I have put these on a BMW 535 D M Sport touring and this tyre is by far the best that I have ever experienced. My car is not running on runflats and I have struggled with comfort and wear on other brands. The Michelin is supreme in all areas and you are wasting your time in buying anything else.

Quite simply the best tyre I have ever used - it has successfully taken the crown from the Pilot Sport 2; therefore, the best tyre available.

Dry grip is borderline madness, and wet grip is vastly improved over the PS2 - its now on par with all-weather tyres. It's quite incredible how they've made it work when you look at the tread pattern and see what looks like an old Formula 1 tyre!

I cannot recommend these enough - if you have a high-powered sports car like a 911, M3, M5 etc., give it what it deserves and get a set of these - you will not be disappointed.

Does anyone have experience importing tyres from the US who can can tell us about the process?

  14. #34

    Default

    Yeah,

Recieved tyres about a week ago from Tireack. Took about 1 week to arrive.
Email them with your request and they will send you a quote including shipping. Email them back that you accept the quote & they will email you their banking details.
They will only take wire transfers, however this is easy to set up on internet banking, which is what I used. If you go direct to a bank it will cost you about AU$25.

    hope this helps

Thanks guys. I'm very keen on the PSS but Michelin Australia in their infinite wisdom don't import them in 235/40/18.

Just wondering about the custom duty. Does the $1000 threshold include shipping costs or just the tires cost? Am looking to change soon too as the shoes are looking a bit thin on thread

Pretty sure it's goods only Dennis. Freight doesn't factor in

    Brand: Kumho
    Model: KU36
    Price (fitted/unfitted): approx $250 fitted a corner
    Bought from: Option1Garage (brisbane)
    Size: 225/45/18
    Value /10: 8
    Performance /10: 8
Likes: grippy in when dry, not too shabby in the wet (would be better if my suspension wasn't so dead). predictable performance in the dry
Dislikes: slightly noisy but not as bad as the OEMs. It's a soft compound tyre so I wouldn't say wear is a dislike
Wear: around 16000km, think I would've gotten more if the tyres were rotated more often (doh)
