ahh it was your car there on the hoist when I called into chat to chris... he is flat out with his beloved Mazda 3's ATM... and with XT foresters.

His workmanship is second to none...i will go to him with any car without a second thought. Because i know the job will be done right and well and if there are any issues Chris will sort it out.

Just took the car out again for another run. wound it out in 3rd a few times. It feels much stronger than before. And definately feels smoother whilst driving around normally.
Torque steer came on pretty hard in 2nd on a few occasions.
Theres only one problem. The more power it makes.... The more i want. haha
Glad i went with the downpipe instead of a racepipe. Why only get half???

yep exactly.. 80% of the power comes from the top end cat delete, and a good designed casting to carry the exhaust efficiently away.. 3rd is a hoot huh?

    Hi,

Technically i am new to this forum, but i thought i joined up ages ago.... maybe because i havent been on here in ages they automatically took me off. Oh well... Anyways hi and great to see some great and fantastic post on the forum. Great info guys!!!!

So what i am wondering.... I am looking at getting myself a lil present for when i own my car in a few months and this is what i am going to do first i think!!

Sounds like this guy is doing a great job with DP's. Did i see someone post that he will freight the item around Aust? and what was the actual pricing for the unit?

Hey guys, i went to one of our brissy performance stores here yesterday arvo to ask a few questions etc etc and since my mate is friends with him i thought hed be able to give me an insight.. So this is what i got from fitting the DP... We put my car on a hoist and had a look at the exhaust structure and bascially he recommended me to go straight DP (no cat) -> replacing the 2nd cat with a hi-flow cat on the front pipe -> chucking out the resnator and replacing it with a straight through pipe-> and keeping the cat back muffler... What do u reckon Doc? and offcourse he said everything will be custom made and fitted. I was thinking like maybe i should wait until theres a aftermarket ECU flash before i do this to run everything smoothly.... He did say theres a slight chance its gonna yield a CEL with this setup so thats the risk but otherwise it should yield some solid power. He also recommended me to install a "throttle booster" to yield better throttle response cause apparently they used to fit them in eletronic throttles in Ferrari's... and it wont void ur warranty.

But thats not to say, i'm still interested in Chris's DP because instead of having a straight through he has a hi-flow cat... But the price for the one i got recommended yesterday was around the same as Chris's DP with what seems like... more work lol

Firstly, I wouldnt trust anyone recommending a throttle booster, it only does what your foot can do, it just amplifies the signal to the electronic throttle, making it seem to react faster for the amount of pedal application, the throttle will only open so fast, and is heavily protected by a double redundancy failsafe, only Mazda could make that plate open quicker. Oh and if you blow a motor with this fitted you can bet Mazda will blame this and void your engine warranty, ANY mod has the risk of voiding warranty of associated parts.
Does this shop also sell those electric motor turbo's, and are they called Ebay performance by any chance

The above setup sounds similar to the corksport design, and running the cat further downstream wont cause any issues, but if you dont mind the risk of having a constant orange light on your dash and frequently resetting your CEL for the sake of a few hundred bucks, its your choice, you wont get a CEL with Chris's setup, and he uses one of the highest flowing legal cats available. Both systems have a single high flow cat its only the position that changes, I would also query how the gasses are going to be collected, is it a split dump (i.e separate wastegate pipe), or a bellmouth as per Chris's design. A quick read of Docs earlier post will highlight the differences in these designs.

Oh, and no need for an ECU tune after fitting the DP, the stock ECU has the capacity to learn around most bolt on mods without issue.

Get the best mufflers setup... no CEL.. replaces the second cat with a high flow (very high quality.. very high flowing) and deletes the first restrictive cat.. utilises a nice big bellmouth.. flows great..

AND HAS NO CELS.... this is a no brainer.. and dont touch that place that want to sell you the throttle thingo...

    Run away!!!

I also have some gold badges available if you are interested in a throttle booster.

Id also just get the Best Mufflers one. for a start, Its proven no CEL. Which for me was a big deal. And i know first hand the improvement in power.
The few of us here who do have one have nothing but praise for it, Chris's workmanship and service.
Like already stated the cat is very good. its the best he can buy. And has been on cars making over 800hp at the tyres. without a problem.
Do you just wanna save a couple of hundred dollars? Long term.... whats a couple of hundred dollars?
Do it once and do it right......

hahaha well, no it wasn't any ebay performance store -_-" Its actually a well known performance store here and Sydney, but they are known for their work specialized in Hondas i suppose? which was prob why he was recommending me the throttle booster, said the company actually builds them for ferraris. But i'm not too keen cause it is quite expensive for such a little piece of gadget...

As for the DP, i'm not really saving couple of bucks money is not the issue for me. its more like firstly, i'm located in Brisbane so its easy for u NSW peps to say "i'll just drop by Chris's and get a fit" but like i was just discussing as to which one was more efficient. Because Chris's setup seems like everything is normal except the 1st cat in the DP is replaced with a high flow one? (correct me if i'm wrong) meaning everything else will be the same. (high flow cat @ DP -> stock cat at front pipe?? -> resonator-> muffler etc etc??) Where as the bloke here was recommending ( no cat @ DP -> high flow cat @ front pipe -> resonator removed for a straight through -> muffler stock etc etc) That could be the difference??. Both custom made...

Just had a quick look at the photos for cotn's install, bit of a side question but did u happen to get a CEL for that SRI u installed? Which one is it if u dont mind me asking?

    Great!!

I so want one of these for mine.

The big question is how am I going to explain to the missus in a way that justifies the money?

Maybe I should start a new thread, "Help Jason find a way to convince his missus to let him spend $1500 on a DP" hehehe

Thanks for throwing this up Doc, definitely on my shopping list before my xede goes back on.
