After replacing the affected panels, will the joint area be rusty after a few years?

If done properly. No it won't rust. On the inside of the 'weld on' panels a Weld through primer is used so it isn't bare steel between the panels where it's been welded. Then obviously the outside is primed and painted so that can't rust either.

Cotn thanks for the info. Glue?? wow. Well I am trying to get an assesment some time today. Will keep you guys posted. hmmm Glue used on MPS?? I would hope not lol.
Los Palmas7: I do beleive that if they do any replaceme pannels or do any welding, most insurance companies go though workshops that provide warranties on thier workmanship.

All shops have to give lifetime warranty with aami, and more than likely all insuance companies.

That's what AAMI stated the quality if guaranteed for life.
I wonder what happens when you change your insurance company or the panel beater go bust in near future?

ok I have had my car quoted. 8-10k to fix. From what I hear new bonnet, new roof, other pannels will be pulled out then resprayed. Not sure if I like the whole cut the roof thing, or the method of pulling out the dents ( Apparently they weld something to the dents pull it out) I then assume Bog it then respray... I am against the idea of Bog.....

    Default Finally getting a quote

I finally got a "collision repair specialist" to look at my car and his initial thought was between $10 and $12k. As a Mazda specialist (he does a lot of work for one of the dealers) I am comfortable with the quality of his work. He plans to replace the roof, boot, bonnet and remove the dents in the other panels (doors, quarter panels and pillars). He will weld the roof on (no glue) so it looks as though I have to join the queue for repairs.

Speaking of which I understand that the Mazda dispatch warehouse in Vic has been shut down temporarily which will mean that spare parts supply will be extremely limited for a while!

My lease expires in 8 months so hopefully repairs will be completed before then!

Good luck Watto, hope you get it fixed before lease expiry! What are you looking at getting when the lease is up?

    Hooray!!! It got written-off!!!

It was a mass assesment at AAMI's centre today. The assessor just took 1 look at my car and wrote "T/L" on my windscreen. They dont even look at my repair quotation of $13K. Im happy.
Thanks everyone for your support!!! Bye Bye MPS.

Great News - best outcome. I know I wouldn't be happy if my car was repaired with that amount of damage, it would never feel the same

What are you going to replace it with? Another MPS6?

Good Question Cotn, I've never thought of that during the fiasco.
Maybe another 6MPS, Audi A4 Quattro B6 or Golf GTI???
My budget is around $24K this time.
