    Default Legality of HID conversions

    Hi guys,

I have searched the forum for this and really never got a straight enough answer for this. So starting a new thread with a few hopefully straightforward questions. "brings out his flame hood just in case " pls bear with me.
I'm asking this in relation to the Gen1 MPS3 Sports Pack.

    1) Is it legal for me to exchange the HID low beam bulbs for higher K ones?
    2) Is it legal for me to convert the non-HID high beam bulbs to HID ones?
    3) If yes to answer (1) and (2), can I just change the bulbs only and do I need to look for extra special feature lamps or equipment (i.e. ballast)?

Thanks guys...i really searched this time round and even googled but with mixed and confusing results

I can't see a problem with uprating a bulb as long as heat doesn't become an issue.

I don't believe it is legal to convert non-HID bulbs to HID without engineered projector lenses and the headlight washer. My understanding is that is otherwise a NO.

Having said that there's kits out there, but the only ADR one that I'm aware of is OEM mazda.

Just because you CAN fit them does not mean they are legal.

The install would have to be approved firstly.
For this to happen you would need the lights to be auto leveling and have headlight washers.

That said, many dont and they have them fitted - however you run the risk of being pinched for them.

yes i have been pulled up for a faulty light,(flickered on /off) but was never asked why they were hid with no washers! i got away with just 1 point and 100 fine for the faulty light not for the illgality of the 7000k light itself on my car!
there so cool, they start green, turn blue then heat up to white!!!
high beams take about 3 seconds to heat up too, but once there they really are great for dark driving!!

Problem is that you are probably dazzling oncoming road users more than you would be with proper lenses to suit etc.

I'd be more comfortable installing additional driving lights than a less than legal HID conversion.

I'd consider OEM conversion if it wasn't obscene $

    lol my bad;

    1. Yes - Legal to change to better HID (Cops wont know, unless you tell them)
    2. No - It is not legal to change the hi-beam to HID (Law states that unless it is a factory option, i.e ADR approved as well the kit must be. But same again cops will not know as your low is HID (XEnon) so im sure they would just assume same.

Im forever getting police grief about my TMIC, just cause 2ft by 1ft, one of the more larger factory TMIC and cause i have re-sprayed mine metallic silver it looks aftermarket (apparently) lol
