Would I be better with 225/40r18?

Is it worth getting them just because they are so cheap or should I just get 225/45r18s?

I am aware that 225/40r18 may not be legal. I am really asking wether RE040 are any good, as I have heard mixed reports. They are typically much more expensive (upwards of $400) but they are on special at 275.
What size rim? If you have stock Gen 1 MPS rims then 235 is a nono. Reasonable price for them however, they're OEM fitment on the RX8 from memory.

The reason why the ones you have quoted are so cheap is because of the size.

235/40/18 is the 6th most common tyre size sold in Australia and tyres in this size are much cheaper than our stock size or 225's, hence what makes going to wider rims so appealing despite the cosmetic 'tougher look' it gives your car.

Im sure if you did try and get them in 225/40/18 or 225/45/18 they would be up around the $450 mark. If you are putting them onto non-stock rims then sure go for it

    It is a stock rim

The guy actually reccomended them to me, said he put them on a MPS the other day....

I had the Maragoni Mythos on my car (made by Pirelli) for a while before I changed to my 235's on a wider rim and they were pretty good and at the time about $250 a corner in 225/40/18. Tforce still runs them on his MPS6 and I imagine he drives it pretty hard and they are holding up well. Jax stock them

also this ebay tyre shop (reputable) will ship tyres to you and have some pretty good performance tyres at good prices

I ended up putting them on, cost me $1060 all up. 235/40r18 Bridgestone RE040s. They overhang the rim a little bit and I know they are probably not roadworthy, but they feel 300% better in the wet melbourne weather already. Can't wait to try them in the dry!

Think I might ring up my insurance tomorrow and let them know I have changed to this tyre size.....

got some pics be interested to see how they look on the rim in that size ... overhang is better than underhang anyway

Yeah same here, very interested to see how it sits on the rim.

Speaking of pics. Falken FK452, 225/45/18.

After reading through this thread, I'm interested in the 215-45-18 Yoko Advan Sport V103's... Has anyone in Sydney had to buy these yet, if so how much and where from.
My reason for this choice is simple, although I believe it is very unlikely that an insurance company will look at the tyre specs when making a small claim, I would still rather have no headaches in regards to this, because at the end of the day, there is no excuse for anyone here if the insurance companies (or RTA) decide to look further into it. Being a performance car also, I gather most of us don't mind a spirited drive every now and again, therefore in the worst case scenario that someone is injured, or worse killed, I can more than guarantee that this issue will not be overlooked.

Back on topic, any Sydney users of this tyre, let me know please.

Yeah you're right, the sizing doesn't look that much different at all. Thanks for posting the pic

Ok, picked up my car, he ended up swapping the 235-40-18 Toyo Proxes 4's for 215-45-18's in Yokohama Advan Sport A10's. Tried to look these up but couldn't find any info... so far so good, a lot better handling than the toyo proxes in the 235 (sidewall flex big time)... $280 a corner fitted and balanced.

Heath I priced the yoko's off Nathan he was dearer by $70 on the AD08 215/45/18 his price was $440,
the A048 225/40/18 for the track were $520 from $555 and the AD08 225/40/18 were $480 and he was $60 dearer than my quote..... Still to decide which way to go....
