    Default Ticking/Rattling noise

So, I have this ticking or rattling noise, only seems to be happening once warm, noticeable when windows down (not while driving - wind etc too loud). at idle if outside the car VERY noticeable. Its def coming from the engine bay...

Sounds almost like timing chain rattle of an SR20, however its not consistent.
Anyone else have or had this before?

It will be taken to dealer to look at during next service (its been there for almost 10k kays, Just want/need some ammo

Hi Justin, don't have those issues with mine, but my daughters 90 model Astina use to have a ticking/rattle noise and I knew it needed engine oil in it... Maybe completely different issues, i'm sure it must be minor....

    Def not oil
Its not consistent either IE, it doesnt vary with revs, and from what I can tell its not regular (ie every second or so)

JMAC, Hi. My car has been booked in for warranty replacement (at 40,000km) of the sinuous drive belt tensioner pulley. The bearing has given out. It rattles noticeably on idle with windows down, and is much worse with air-con turned on as the belt is under greater load. Just a thought. It's tough to see down there even with a torch. Get it checked. The car remains driveable in the short term. Hope this helps.

Thanks Doug, thats a help.. ill see how I go with it.
I just want to give them somewhere to start so they dont think Im crazy!

Im @ 50,000 so doesnt surprise me, you may have hit the nail on the head... I thought the chances of someone else having the same issues were pretty high.

I actually thought it could have been a bearing, its def in that vicinity.

Oops, how rude of me to not update this... Doug you were right mate.. Timing belt pre-tensioner was at fault and replaced under warranty.
