    Default MPS6 Rear Brake Calipers

Has any-one replaced the rear pads on their MPS6.
My early MPS6 appears to have different rear calipers than listed in the brake catalogues. I can't find a listing (including shape) of my rear pads.

Workshop manual is no help as it doesn't show the pads. I am waiting for dealer to get back to me to see if there are two part numbers listed for the rear pads.

If the picture is accurate of the HAWK pads they look nothing like my rear pads. The pads in my car are flat across the bottom and the locating lugs are just above the centre line.

It is a bit hard to see from the angle of the picture but they look somewhat closer though than the pads listed in the Bendix catalogue for a MPS6 which has the locating lugs on the bottom of the pad, as do the pads I just purchased.

The picture for the Hawk pads are all the same, not the pad

They are notoriously hard to get Russell. The last time I checked, the only choices for pads in Australia were OEM, Hawk, Red/Greenstuff and more recently QFM. There may be more recent developments but it's still not a huge range.

Dads on his way to the Apollo Rd cruise today, so he is going to look at the other cars.
The picture of the pads that should be on it according to GSL are the ones sent, but nothing at all like the OEM ones fitted currently

The QFM pads I was supplied by GSL Rallysport are incorrect.

All the MPS6 cars on the Apollo Road run have the same rear calipers and pads.

Conclusion is that the Bendix Catalogue has an incorrect listing for the rear pads for a MPS6. My research on the internet into other brake brand catalogues found they matched the Bendix listing making them also incorrect.

I don't see it as GSL's fault as they have sent me the pads listed for an MPS6 - it just happens that the catalogues are wrong.

So Bendix has led everyone astray. I may be useful to have a look at the EBC catalog, they usually have pad outlines and dimensions shown.

FWIW I've only changed my rear pads once. The Hawk pads were correct.

It's got alot more complicated than that.... I've been through the following catalogs:
    - Bendix
    - ATAP
    - RDA
    - Remsa
    - EBC
    - N Brake
    - NIBK Brakes
    - TRW
    - Acre

And they all said that MP6 rears were the same as normal 6. We now know otherwise and are quickly working on a solution to provide QFM pads to suit.

On EBC, we usually use the UK catalog, and it too was incorrect. I later checked EBC USA, and it had the correct part listed. Will keep everyone updated!

Worst case we'll be able to supply pads, but it will be at custom pricing which is a few bucks more expensive, so $119 for HPX and $179 for A1RM.

Do you know what the EBC numbers are? The EBC numbers I got from the USA catalog aren't even brought into Australia... I've got DP21766 and DP31766 Green/Red respectively... neither of which are brought into by RDA?

No sorry. It's been a long time since I researched them and I didn't keep any of the info. I have used Greens on the front of the MPS, they were DP21574.

    Gone to Volvo

    Hi guys,

If anyone has an old set of MPS6 rear pads lying around, please see here:

Personally I hate EBC's after running them for a while.

I use Hawk ones and i'm happy with them

A little sceptical to try a non name brand on my car. Braking is not something I want to go cheap on.

    My 2 cents!

Given that's a cheap crack at QFM, keep in mind one of two things:
    - QFM are a manufacturer (Australian non the less) and have been doing so since the 80's. They may not be extremely well known, but their pads are, and are sold in brand boxes, such as Race Brakes...
    - Bendix is a brand name, which we also distribute, but very few of their pads excite me...

That we can agree on. But again they're a brand name.

At this stage, with the QFM front pads fitted I am very happy. I did a huge amount of browsing for comments on different brand pads and spoke to quite a few brake specialists and pad retailers re different brand pads.

I must admit that Bendix OZ was probably the most honest and helpful - the final comment was about the limited sales for the MPS6 rear pads not worth them producing.

Sadly - and I do think it is sad that there are more negative reports on EBC pads than positive. That is probably normal as all the people happy just don't bother saying a thing. Likewise with Hawk pads, but one thing was evident with Hawk is that it depended on the type of vehicle and it's use. Hawk had some pretty negative responses, particularly in the US on track cars - no bad reports at all on Mazda's.

We've found a supplier of rear pads!!! All will be revealed, including pricing, in due time, but it is a VERY reputable, very good quality brand, nothing of which has been mentioned previously, and also of which will allow us to produce the QFM in turn! Fronts will also be available in this brand upon request!

    Stay tuned!
