In the boot mate. Do a remote boot relocate.

Very interesting, never seen a battery relocated to the guard. Hows that going to affect weight on the front wheels?

That's gonna be nasty if you ever have a front end bingle crush the battery.
I'd be looking into a boot install.

I've got a holy lab coat that is testament to how corrosive even an invisible smear of sulphuric acid can be....

I think there's legislation on this. You might need to check that out regarding what you can do with battery relocations....

I have had a front mount already and has since been sold to accomodate a larger core and I can't use the said intercooler with the std turbo because it's too small.

FWD + weight forward of the front wheel will actually increase traction, something to do with weight transfer. Also the weight is lower down and reduces the centre of gravity too.

I looked into a boot install and it would have meant extra cabling to the battery which increases weight (not a big issue as such) and also moving the weight forward increases traction. I have a dry cell battery, so, that wasn't an issue regarding fumes.

I will try to see what I can find about this. I know if I move it to the boot, I need a dry cell, which it is.

    Thanks for all the input/advice

I'm very interested in how this turns out. A few questions though, why the T28? Sure it's bigger than the standard turbo, but it's getting out of it effiency range fairly early on still if your running a decent amount of boost. Did you go with the .64 or .86 rear. I have the same turbo on my bluebird running 20PSI, goes good, but you can feel it dying out in the top, and that's only a 2 litre. I'll be going for the GT3076 in the next 6 months or so, good size for a 2.3 litre.

Also, why move the turbo? I would have thought there was enough room in the standard location?

I went with the 28 because the cams only make power to 52-5300rpm, so, I was after more low down power because my car is a daily driver too. I don't want some bulk kw reading that can't be used on the street.

    I have the .64 housing.

I moved the turbo for that "wank" factor. I work for an exhaust shop and this is what we specialise in, so, I have to do it for display/promotion purposes too. I haven't had to pay for any exhaust/manifold/inlet mods yet. I can run a slightly shorter turbo to intercooler path aswell, but, maily for the visual appeal.

I can always upgrade to a bigger turbo later on if I choose. I have ample room now that I have moved it all.

    One statement: Because I can

Interesting information about the cams, where did you come accross that? Are there any aftermarket cams available for our cars yet?

It's obvious about the cams. Every car that has been tuned even falls off at the same point. There is only 1 thing left, the cams.

I'm sure there are some AM cams available. I think that will be my first venture into the internals of the motor.

There appears to be a growing concensus that the low end torque is killing our cars. Based on this, additional low rpm torque is not good. Increasing the rpm for peak torque is preferable.

Dont get me wrong, I am impatiently waiting your results and hope you blow us away.

I do have grave concerns though based on the huge amount of failures that have occurred for those following this path.

Q - When will the car be finished in current form?

How long is a piece of string?

I purchased the turbo back in April and has taken me till around now to start to fit it. It was supposed to have been fitted for Jamboree, then before the CT dyno day. I hope to have it finished before Xmas now. It's very time consuming removing everything and refitting it all again, every weekend. It's going to take time that I can't wait for.

the lack of room in there must be a pain in the arse.

Id be worried about pistons and rods if you are going to drive it high in the rev range all the time rather than use low torque. Why not get the turbo high flowed so it comes on hard and stays hard. I have a gt28 lined up for the 5 pot that has been to melb for this.

Also, which gaskets will you be using to decrease compression?

All blown MZRs (that I know of) have blown down low around 3k give or take. The quick transition to boost with the high torque coupled with the fueling issues (cdfp) are seen as the most obvious causes. I am yet to see a rod bend at high rpm.

Issue number two is going to be the ecu and fueling for any BT setup on the MZR.
