Thread: Coilover options ?

  1. Default

just on the pedders product, what type of warranty do they offer with the coilovers?

Is there local support from a warranty and service perspective for BC and Fulcrum (Tien) gear, particularly in Vic?

    Question Coil-overs !!!!!

After reading this thread i was ready to uninstall my new k-sport coil-overs and bin them , but i thought i am stoked with them certainly a big improvement on stock . So because my car is not a race or rally car and never will be and my name isn,t LOEB,WEBBER or WINTERBOTTOM i didn,t !!!
Don,t get me wrong i fully agree with GSLRALLYSPORT but however suspension set up on race cars is an exact science with hundreds of variables tarmac, hillclimbs, rough or smooth ,camber and off camber corners ,dirt ,gravel ,snow ,sleet, wet ,dry individual tracks and stages the list goes on and on .
Our mps,s can only ever be a compromise of all the above ,if you can afford the best of the best then get them, but if finances don't permit you will have to settle for these cheaper options ,i have cheap coil-overs and for around town ,the twisties and highway cruising i can,t fault them .
What i would fit on a race car is a different matter remembering most competition suspension ,chassis and tyres are impractical for everyday use.
I hope this puts some balance back into this discussion

I'm looking at replacing my BC coilovers now and looking for something with camber adjustment (allows better wheel fitment ). Has anyone gone for the Tein Superstreets and had camber tops made for them? If only monoflex items were available for our cars

Col, I'm not saying that the cheaper coilovers won't be an improvement on stock. What I will stand by saying is that for the dollars, in the aftermarket arena, there are far better options.

however suspension set up on race cars is an exact science with hundreds of variables tarmac, hillclimbs, rough or smooth ,camber and off camber corners ,dirt ,gravel ,snow ,sleet, wet ,dry individual tracks and stages the list goes on and on . Which is exactly why you'd be better off with a premium quality non-adjustable damper, than a cheaper lower performance adjustable one...

if you can afford the best of the best then get them, but if finances don't permit you will have to settle for these cheaper options
I'm not trying to get people to spend big money, there's no cheaper or more expensive option here (well, there is, but I'm not in the business of taking people up if they don't need it), rather how people can better spend the same amount of money.

As with everyone else who's posted, I'm not having a go at anyone, and you've said you agree with me (thanks ), but your argument, at least in my opinion, strengthens my point about cheap coilovers...

    Smile I fully agree !!!

Ok we have got off on the wrong foot here and i really do agree with all you said in your post,s, also i certainly wasn,t taking you to task not at all. i also really believe in buying the best is the best policy ,you shouldn,t apologize for selling top quality products and they will be expensive and thats ok .In 40years of kart racing ive learnt that you usually only get what you pay 4 .
I suppose i think that some of us want the best of everything and in a lot of cases it can be overkill for road cars and you probably agree .
So i will take your advice and fit shocks and springs next time as i have always done for 35years i have made the mistake of believing the hype about coil-overs , in my case i needed to compromise on price because mrs you lose has told me that ill lose if i don,t buy the bosch kitchen she is entitled to given the money spent on madaz .
In closing i really appreciate your knowledgeable input i was just trying to get a more balanced discussion .Having said that i think the k-sport coil-overs are very good for $1,400 dollars for road use .

im thinking of going down the eibach spring, and Bilstein B8 road, can anyone comment on how they found Bilsteins, how they compare to coilovers, especially the tein ones ?

+ 1 just curious ........likely to be the usual discussion of what do you want or need from your suspension

As i wont track my car I have decided to go the Bilstein eibach combo for quality, price, rebuild when needed and custom revalving if i decide to change the damper characteristics AND it suits my needs.

ive had Bilstein road shocks and king springs on 7 different cars over 35 years and never had i single problem .Iwent for coil-overs this time because of the hype and a son and son in law that pestered the hell out of me untill i got coil-overs ,which i think are good but more exp and knowledgeable persons than me will tell you cheaper coil-overs are not the way to go because of damper rates and they are probably correct .

I like how people comment in such detail that some products are no good when they are just going off what they have heard and they have never tried the product they are putting down, its ridiculous, this whole thread has turned into nothing more helpfull than opinions, which really help no one, if you want real info from people who know ask people about what thay have installed not what they have never tried, nobodys an expert on everything, although some like to think they are

Not sure I agree with you there mate, Im commenting on what ive experienced and so are you. Col has a good opinion and has tried both, I also have no doubt that Greg knows what he is talking about.

So far its been an insightful read and quite constructive.

As ive said before, if you are happy that is the main thing. I have no question in believing that the coilovers you have are a step up from stock. The information so far has been based around what is the best increase in performance for the buck.

At the end of the day everyone will have a different opinion and constructive criticism is not a bad thing.
Whilst this may be a bit of a read for new members I have to admit its been a bit of an insight and ive learned a thing or two.

If I had the money I wouldnt mind trying every single available suspension option myself, however I dont so most of us have to rely on the feedback other people has of certain product or brand.

Im sure you would warn a friend about buying dodgy products if you knew of people who had issues with them.

. other end of the spectrum.

I've had my new KONI FSD Shocks + pedders springs combination for the past 2 months and i've been pretty happy so far. Car has become pretty comfortable and although people have said pedders are shit.. i'd probably have to disagree... so far.. .

I'd love to get coilovers, but budget has limited me. =(

Its not the pedders that are good, its the FSD's!

Well i finally made my mind up and decided on a set of B.C racing coilovers, so i made the call to MPS Garage, none in stock and they don't know when more stock will come in .
Also Fulcrum won't have any Teins available until Feb/Mar
Not many options left, lets see how good my patience is.
    Cheers Todd

Ive got a set of Tein SS on my GTiR best coilovers I've ever used, when i bought the GTiR she had a set of D2s now that werent bad but they werent good either, after changing to the Teins the car is so crazy with handling takes bumps well, sits well and corners like a demon. Next will be the EDFC for the Teins. Hope that helps you in some way. If you dont wana spend the $$$ on the Teins, BC coilovers arent bad So im told.
