Well today I got the red bullett back from Custom Exhaust Specialist with the turbo back exhaust fitted. The only part not changed were the stock mufflers (mostly due to cost, but I may change them later).
Many thanks to the hard working boys at CES including 2XS as it was quite a mission to have the downpipe changed. All the bolts from the downpipe to the turbo were seized as the Mazda apprentice...opps sorry mechanic didn't use anti-seize on the bolts. It was also done to the o2 sensor which will need to be replaced as the thread is totally stripped.
However the end result looks like a work of art. Below are some pics 2XS kindly took while it was up on the hoist .
View of the branching to twin mufflers (apparently the greatest restriction in the stock exhaust)
Long view of the exhaust
The downpipe before the wastegate pipe was installed.
And after.
Initial feel of new exhaust system?
I love the power delivery. It is some much smoother and doesn't fall off a cliff at 5500. The engine seems to want to rev more too.
Power would have to be greater at all points in the curve I would think. It certainly feels faster.
The noise is no greater than standard at idle or cruising speed, which is great. No drone at all!
Then when you put your foot down it gets loud with a gutteral medium pitched sound that certainly lets you know the power is coming.
Not sure if I would call the noise pleasing but will reserve my judgement on that at this stage.
Next step is to have it dynoed to see if the pants dyno is correct.
