Default New Ford Focus RS Chipped to 340-Horsepower by GGR

With the arrival of the new Ford Focus RS Mk2 tuners across Europe are readying various improvements for the hot hatch that leaves the factory with a 300 HP 2.5-liter turbocharged inline-five linked to a six-speed manual gearbox that transfers power to the front-wheels. One of the first upgrades to hit the market comes from Ford specialist Graham Goode Racing (GGR).

The 'RS340' engine tuning package for the Mk2 Focus RS consists only of an ECU upgrade with firmware modifications and software reprogramming.

According to GGR, the kit adds an extra 40-horsepower and 73 lb-ft boosting total output to 340-horsepower at 5,600 rpm and 397 lb-ft or 538Nm of maximum torque at 3,100 rpm. GGR did not release any acceleration figures for the tuned Focus RS.

The ECU upgrade is priced at £435.00 including VAT and is covered by a 12 month / 30,000 mile breakdown warranty.

    340bhp at crank...

I'm getting around 284 at the wheels. How much lose is there through the drive train?

Call it 25% lose. Mine is 355 at the crank. So yes we are getting those numbers.

There are people in the USA between 350 and 400BHP at the wheels - now thats crazy!

Crusher, I wouldnt quite say 25% losses, maybe in a rear wheel drive but not in a front wheel drive, you're looking at about 15-16%... (far less mechanical loss in a fwd, distance is a factor due to weight of mechanical parts) Take the MPS as a standard vehicle, 190kw at the motor, 160kw atw... approx 15.8% losses. So if yours is pumping out 284hp at the wheels, and if my calculations are correct you have approx 329hp. Not quite 340, pretty close though!
Have you run your car down the quarter mile?

By the way, if this was released here I would have a deposit down straight away! Hot looking car, and nice sporty interior!

seconded. 15% sounds about right, but even then its open to interpretation.

what torque are u generating crusher? peak hp doesnt tell the whole story.

theres now an xr5 in oz with stock turbo and internals running 215kw at the wheels with 440Nm atw. a smidge over 500 torques at the fly.

im pretty sure he will be heading out to WSID very shortly.......try and beat his time then i will be impressed. the only number worth bragging about is the ET

Peak Power output is for talking, torque is for winning.

Thumbs down Not 4 oz im told

This Focus is not bound 4oz says FPV,s Harold Marsden ,what a pity ,apparently retail price landed on our shores are estimated to be $75k .Ford bean counters feel at that price it would struggle for hot hatch market share. The good news is FPV may bring out an oz version in 2011/12 hopefully priced at around $60k . Col
