    Andy Waite's 180mph Golf

PROUD Andy Waite shows off his 1979 VW Golf – which can blow away a Bugatti Veyron supercar. Father of three Andy, 42, bought the Mk 1 Golf for fifty quid.

That’s nearly £1million less than the price of the Bugatti, the world’s most expensive motor.

But after Andy spent £60,000 on modifications, including a custom-built turbocharged engine, the VW can scorch from 0-60mph in just 2.36 seconds.

    Bugatti Veyron

And that’s faster than the Veyron, which takes a tenth of a second longer. The Golf, which has a top speed of 180mph, can also beat the Bugatti in a quarter-mile dash. Andy, of Fordham, Cambs, said creating his “monster” motor had been a labour of love. He drives it in drag races but it is fully road legal and runs on unleaded fuel.

Andy added: “The biggest problem is that once you get over 160 you can only drive it in a straight line because the steering goes wobbly.

Loved the SLR's...now they were a real car...

Which reminds me- what ever happened to the popular drop tanks back in the day? Why did they go out of fashion?

That's Awesome! Still when you spend that much money on mods (complete rebuild and more!) you'd expect results like that, but man sub 3 sec 0-60mph!!!!!! That's bike territory. I also liked the look of the MK I Golf, reminded me of my MK II Escort!

On the You Tube there were other vids of the Bugatti Golf on the 1/4 mile!

If I had that much power I would love to be in a rear wheel drive car or all 4 wheels, with the mods I have already I struggle for traction even in third gear at the high end rev range going slightly down hill. If I spent that much money on a car I would like to get most of the power down without losing it trying to find traction..... Even when I was running 370Kw in the HSV Coupe and pushing the go pedal gradually i wasn't breaking traction like i do in the MPS......
