Ask them if they will replace it with a GT28/30 or T3/4 turbo

must be the better part of a year. Decided to let the car idle for 5 mins this morning b4 heading off to work. Noticed fairly strong smoke. It was fine on the way to work but there is a feeling of deju vu.

I get a fair bit of smoke on startup (particularly on colder mornings), but I think mine is more just the condensation and the rich mixture, and the fact the cat isn't up to temp.

Did the smoke have the typical pungent odour of the burning coolant?

...sometimes the seals go... and sometimes they smoke..

a few of the guys have had issues with their turbos... ive seen one in action (Blackbetty) when i was in canberra last.

hopefully this has been rectified in the current revision.

Solution SLOW DOWN look after it. Mazda's are pretty reliable cars not dodgy and that's coming from a Holden man through & through.

I could understand if it was the original one, but are you sure that's the problem with the replacement one?

It is the solution, once you get your turbo replaced (again).

The turbo seals are rooted due to high temperature oils from the motor entering the exhaust system and being forced through the turbo.

There is a thread on this forum from the USA where Mazda USA admit the PCV valve is weak and allows oil to enter the turbo, damaging the seals. A fix is under development, but as I said an oil catch can will stop it happening.

In the meantime go back to mazda and ask for another turbo.
