Thread: Springs linear OR progressive

  1. Default Springs linear OR progressive

looking to upgrade my springs MPS 3 the factory springs from what i can see are linear i was considering the Eibach, Cobb or Mazdaspeed- which would be suited considering the latter are linear and from my understanding the Eibachs are progressive Im familiar with why springs are progressive or linear so my Q IS IF Mazda engineers chose linear then should i stay with linear springs

It's personal preference. In the end, it's really not that much of a difference compared to say coilies. Others may come along and say X is better than Y, but each person is different and want different things. Pick the one you want based on cost and drop rather than spring performance.

    Guys,

My main objective with susp is to eliminate rear "squat" when weight transfers to the back of the car upon hard acceleration.
Will springs alone with existing shocks aid in this?

    Cheers

    Stiffer springs will fix that.

    Look at H&R too.

They make a spring specific for the 3 MPS.

At a guess I would say they are better than both Cobb and Mazdaspeed as suspension is what they do.

And the StreetUnit reviews are pretty good too.

Quoted for truth!!! Great example, Peter Solberg used to swear by linear rate springs, but was convinced by a certain Aussie, to try a certain Aussie brand of Aussie made progressive spring in the SWRT car, and loved them. It's very application dependent and getting the correct overall spring rate if FAR more important than linear vs. progressive.

Another good example, easily the two best Australian suspension manufacturers (MCA and DMS), one tends to use linear (MCA) and the other tends to use progressive (DMS). Over the last decade both MCA (in the TRD cars) and DMS have won the Australian Rally Championship outright.
