Thread: Mod my car : What next?

Default Mod my car : What next?

Ok, I currently have FMIC, Turbo manifold, Turbo back exhaust, SRI, Cold air pickup, Spark plugs - 2 colder. All this to make it go faster.

Awaiting fitment: XEDE very soon, then Garrett GT28/76r then tune again.

    What else can I do?

Anybody got/heard/had fitted Throttle plate contollers?

I will be buying coil-overs coming in the next month (still deciding between BC-Racing and K-sport) Which ones and Why?

Please keep the mods within reason. I have to keep it as a daily driver. I.E. No engine rebuilds.

    Thanks in advance.

I personally would wait until Turbo is fitted then XEDE is re-tuned. By then you would have to be fairly close to the (realistic) power limits of a FWD car....

    2wd > awd conversion.

Hmmm, you've made it go quick and you're starting on suspension, so I would say keep on the suspension/tyres and maybe brakes? Lighter rims? Carbon fibre? Weight reduction? you could go on and on - please do, as I quite like following the exploits of 2XS and his beast

I am going the suspension before the turbo. I recently sold my kings to Nirvy to allow for the coil-overs.

I work for CES, so everything I have currently done has cost me very little, just alot of time.

I have thought about Carbon Fibre, but its hard to get big stuff into Aus (like bonnets and hatches etc) I'll try to source custom stuff locally.

I have some slicks coming for when I go to the track. I'm just researching quality street rubber.

I like the AWD conversion, but, it's time consuming and a little costly, but, most important, I want to keep it FWD for the challenge.

OT: What is Oz's fastest street driven/registered FWD record? What about Oz's fastest street driven/registered MPS (FWD only, not 6)?

I thought it might have been a pulsar or a civic!

Congratulations to Rowan on taking the Fastest SFWD record, previously held by another Pulsar driver - Ringers (Ryan).

Interesting to note that this particulr run was with a 2.009 60 ft and quite obvious traction issues. Rowan has previously run 130+ MPH and tighter 60 footers so it's fair to say it could be a bit quicker if it werent for those variables.

9.2 sec. That can't be street.

So thats a built engine in the Pulsar then. This could be fun.

I got my slicks today......Can we say MMMMMMMM Michelin. I have to say a big thank you to Mr Angus who drives the Porsche that these came off. What an expensive sport the Carrera Cup is.

I also ordered my K-Sport coil-overs. 36 points of adjustment is ludicrus. Hopefully I can test the slicks and coil-overs soon....Bring on 12s, *Fingers crossed*

Scratch that, reading further seems it was an 11.43
Not 100% if this is the SFWD record but its a pretty good benchmark.

Ahh - If only I did that to my N14 SSS - regretted selling it...

    have a look at this..

What kinda figures you chasing from these mods before and after tune? Kinda exciting.

Which leads me to my next question.

Is there a "glass ceiling" on these engines in terms of performance, i mean what figures are safe and what figures require closer monitoring or internal adjustments to prevent the BIG BANGs

On the US forums it seems 361hp (275kw app.) atw is the biggest so far.

I'd settle for 300 for now.

Have you thought about an ATB diff ?

Quaife ATB diff, stands for Automatic Torque Biasing or something. It's a helical LSD, a quick Google should give more info. Dunno if it would be much better than the standard LSD, would prob be a mod you'd do after you'd done almost everything else.

Pretty expensive from memory, $2k ish I think...but my knowledge is a bit old on these now...
