    Default Brakes, pads and fluid change

    ok so tonight i put the hawk race pads in . and changed brake fluid to synthetic 600 degree fluid. anyways. the pedal feels pretty soft. if it got air in the lines i dont understand how we did coz we did everything right so we didnt. so was thinking there may be some air in the abs unit.

    anyone had any problem with bleeding the brakes? as in a soft pedal. wehn cars off gets real firm then when car is on softens up heaps

    ps; the hawk race pads feel great once there a bit warmer. they bite like a vampire sucking blood. really good.

    would the fluid that you put in happen to be motul rbf600?

    when i first switched to that from castrol super dot 4 (which had pedal feel almost about the same as the factory fluid), it took a bit of getting used to because there wasnt as much resistance in the pedal. hopefully this is the same thing that you are talking about

    it definitely slows the car down even though the pedal suggests otherwise, but for street use, it may not be necessary, especially considering the price

    also, you may need to bleed them a bit more often. it may not get as mushy as the castrol super dot 4 after the same amount of stops, but it gets the same if not more air in there

    if you intend to bleed your own brakes often, i recommend one of these or these so then you dont damage the seals on the brake master cylinder, plus you can do it by yourself

    by the way, when you changed to the new fluid, did you push as much of the old fluid out of the reservoir as possible, leaving just a bit in there, then pour the new fluid into the reservoir?

    you pretty much have to sacrifice a whole 500ml bottle to flush the system, and then use a new bottle to top up the reservoir. this way, you wont have any of the old fluid in the system, plus you wont have any air in the system.

    or, get a power bleeder, and save yourself the hassle, damage to the master cylinder and risk of air in the system

    I to am pretty interested to know exactly what fluid you changed to??? If it is a silicon fluid (not too many 600's are) then you would have needed to flush the system out with metho or similar to get all of the remaining glycol Dot 4 out, or else you're going to have big compatibility issues with rubber seals later on down the track.

    also, the fluid reservoir is shared by the clutch and brakes, so you will also have to force the old fluid out using the clutch as well

    the fluid is Sin synthetic. i think its 600. ill look at the bottle tomorrow. i pretty sure all the old fluid is out. it s a different colour to the old stuff. ill be bleeding brakes again tomorrow arvo sometime. thanks for the heads up with the seals.
    ive done this for an upcoming track day. wanted the brakes to be decent as i want to stop. last time,,,, i had some issues with brakes in a different car.

    also to answer first post. adfter driving around the pedal does feel a little soft but the car seems to have no trouble stopping at all. heat the pads up a little and they are pretty darn good.

    Cool, if it's Penrite Sin then it's still a polyalkylene glycol ether ester so it's fine if the system wasn't completely cleaned out. Good stuff too. We prefer the TRW GP600 to the Penrite, but the Penrite is a few bucks cheaper, and does the job for most people.

    ok figured it al out. it ended up being the brake pads . put the stock ones back in and pedal feels fine again. so it was just the pads . the hawk racin pads are pretty darn good. never had a problem with brakes on the day, only time i did was my own fault and left brakin a bit to late
