Thread: What should Tarmac mag do with the 09 MPS?

  1. Default What should Tarmac mag do with the 09 MPS?

    Hi everyone,

Following its Australian launch next week, Tarmac magazine is getting its hands on the new 2010 Mazda3 MPS in a few weeks and we’d like to know what you think we should do with it?

So we've turned the floor over to you. Tarmac magazine likes doing things a little bit differently, but it has to be realistic and budget conscious (eg: we can’t convert it to a Space Shuttle or drive it off a cliff), but we can do full time tests, dynos and comparisons. So let us know what you’d like to see with the new Mazda3 MPS. Just a couple of rules:

    1) We can’t take it on a track (Mazda is very anal about this, sorry)

    2) We can’t modify it in any way, besides tyre pressures

    3) We can’t do anything illegal (blatantly, anyway).

So whether it’s taking it to the drags and the dyno, comparing it to the Targa racecar, or just seeing how many km we can get from a tank, our ears are open. Send ideas to MPS@tarmac-mag.com.au by July 29.

P.S The next issue of Tarmac mag has all the pricing details for the new 3 MPS - on sale is July 29 - vist www.tarmac-mag.com.au for more before then.

    Cheers,

Id love to see it on both the dyno and the quarter!
If I had to choose though it would be at the drags

Compare the old MPS to the new MPS. 0-100 & 1/4 mile times would be great.
Maybe a bit of info comparing steering & suspension would be helpful ; firmness, comfort, torque steer etc.

We have to ask DanSP23Bris, he's the first of us to be getting one I think.

Shame Mazda won't allow track time, still agree with the others here. Comparison on Dyno and 1/4 mile and basic on the road stuff, nice twisties etc, just don't get caught like the WA journo with the Ferrari

    0-100 Times
    1/4 Mile Times
    Rolling Start Times
    Twisty Runs
    Braking Limits
How quickly the mailman can fit letters in the letterbox

    And maybe a comparison between the R32 / XR5 / MPS / STi

That should give a good indication of performance

    +1 SRL,

There are some comparison vehicles out there (XR5 namely) but also a good comparo to that of the "old" MPS.

....and yes... I'm awaiting delivery of mine

Agreed with most of the ideas above. I'd be most interested in an old/new comparo highlighting key differences between the models, and a tie in to the mods done to prepare the Targa Tassie cars would be a good read.

Look forward to whatever you do anyway. Should be interesting. Especially various times

Rolling start times of new and old, side by side to see power delivery characteristics and gearing changes, subjective 'feel' of handling and power, (that will probably be a given though).
^^^The message is up there stupid^^^
