    Default Clutch and flywheel replacement

    Hi all,

I am coming to the brain trust to get everyone's opinion on a replacement flywheel and clutch setup. I have some mods, HPFP, 3" DP, 3" intake, changing to GTX 2867R or GT2871R, and a Cobb AP V2 with a tune by Nishan. From what I've read, the ACT setup generally lasts around 20,000kms, Excedy had a massive recall and their springs stuffed up, Clutch Masters FX400 constantly fails, and the recommended by the boys in the states is the Southbend Stage 3 endurance setup, which costs around $2,600!!!!

Does anyone have a local alternative which is suited for our cars and will last? I am using this as a daily driver.

It's been three years or more since I had replacement clutch (and engine and gearbox) in my BK, but I'm really happy with NPC clutch About Us - NPC - Leaders in Performance Clutches | Mansfield | QLD Australia that had installed.
I'd suggest talking to them about your needs.

I've had the South bend Stage 3 enduro in mine (MPS3 gen2) for almost 80,000kms and it has been faultless it felt heavy the first couple of days then it was fine, car is used as a daily , long distance and launched multiple times with full slicks at the drags with power from 2 different turbo set ups, first was a GTX3076 with a boost based methanol nozzle around 480whp, now on a Precision set up with meth port injection and over 600whp and it takes it. When i bought mine years back our dollar was higher and Edgeauto sport had a new year discount... To get them delivered now from Edge they are around $2200, you get what you pay for in the end.

I've seen ACT's fall apart at 10,000ks, their quality is terribly inconsistent, some last 60,000.

it depends what you plan on doing with the car, locally made some use NPC kits for circuit and street use, 2nv Industries Newcastle MPS and Mazda Service and Performance Specialist who built my engine etc has fitted and supplied the NPC to a few of his other customers and can get a price as they can make custom ones etc.

Thanks alot guys, I have spoken to NPC and will probably go down the path of 5 puck sprung centre button clutch & solid conversion flywheel, I am aiming for 300 awkw, but daily driven, just need to get it sent down from QLD to Melb, so car will be on jacks for another week -_-.

How did you go? NPC are a great team to deal with and their quality range of products are more than capable of what MPS’s are able to deliver!

Sorry for the delayed response, been getting ready for the baby! NPC was great, I got the 5 puck sprung center button clutch & solid conversion flywheel and arrived in no time, but still to fit it up. I haven't had the time to work on the car and my mate hasnt been able to come over either. Hoping to post pics when I get to it. For now trying to work out the new GTX2871R piping and seeing if I have timed the car correctly.

Hey all, just wondering if anyone has any advice for installing the NPC clutch setup, heard the throwout bearing might be an issue?

Their kits come with everything you need, nothing out of the ordinary to note.

    Whats the concern?

The kit came with 2 throwout bearings, one stock and one that is almost twice the thickness. I have installed the thicker one, based on going from a Dual mass to a single mass, need the extra thickness.

I have always used their SMF kits. Did you not get an SMF kit from them and purchase the flywheel seperate? Trying to work out why you have both throw outs bearings lol

I make my own braided kit and have the parts in stock but for 3’s it involves cutting off the OE hose near the fire wall and flaring the pipe etc to attach the braided section. If that’s some thing you’re able to do I can send you the parts. My advice however is to do that while the gearbox is out! It’s such a bitch to get flaring tools in there otherwise and once you have cut that OE section off you are well and truly committed lol

shoot me an email mitch@2nvindustries.com.au if you decide to go ahead and have a crack at that little exercise
