    Default Stock turbo info....

Hey guys, am I right in assuming that the oem turbo DOES NOT run ball races? And if not, are most running a turbo timer, or is the general consensus that the synthetic oils nowadays, are of such a high quality that carbon deposits on the shaft are a non issue?

Thanks for your feedback peeps :-)

Journal bearing. No need for a turbo timer though with proper water cooling - coolant continues to circulate slowly after shut off so it won't burn the oil on. If you were just flogging it and it's glowing red, let it cool for a few mins. Normal driving, you can turn it off and it will be fine.

Thanks mate. Excuse my ignorance but how does the water continue to flow thru the cooling jacket of the turbo once the engine stops?

Syphoning - as the water in different parts of the system cools and contracts, water is syphoned around. No idea about the exact details. http://www.mazdaspeedforums.org/foru...-timer-104517/
Even garret say they are pretty much redundant for a modern turbo https://www.turbobygarrett.com/turbobygarrett/faq
