Thread: Boost problems , maybe something else, recommendations?

  1. Default Boost problems , maybe something else, recommendations?

    Hey guys, i got this issue with my car, only done 66ks and its not boosting fully, how it should. When it does boost, it doesnt seem to be boosting how it supposed to and today i was driving it and tried to boost it in 2nd and it tried to boost fully and then it backed off then on again then off, so it was this stuttering feeling until i backed the pedal off.

    Now this has happened once before as soon as i got someone to adjust the turbo inlet hose (you might of read about it in the topic above ) but now there are no leaks and i want to go to take it to someone to check it out,but most mechanis performance places try and milk your money from you. But if i have some sort of idea of what it might be i can get them to check it out first.

    Has anyone ever had this issue before or knows what im talking about lol ?

    Can you get logs? If it's really cutting, could be plugs or fuel (what are you using?), but as kiwi says, could just as easily be traction control in 2nd. What do you mean by "not boosting fully"?

    Well when i drove my car from Newcastle to Brisbane the boost felt really strong, but when i got home the next day and until now, the boost hasnt been the same. I changed the end part of the turbo inket pipe as it was leaking and its like now it tries to boost fully but then backs off, but fast, like a stuttering. Its done it 3 times now and i think mainly in 2nd and 3rd.

    I have versatune ready to use and have used the tune but after doing logs with it i was told by Steve it doesnt seem right, so i put it back to stock. Im not sure if i should put the tune back on again and do a log with it or leave it as stock and get it checked out by a performance shop.

    If i go the route of the performance shop i need some trustworthy places that are reliable and wont rip my off , or specialist mps places in the Brisbane . I'm near springwood ikea btw, thanks.

    If it's doing it in other gears, I'd start by checking everything you touched. The ebcs hoses and barbs in particular as they are super fragile. Can you post up the logs you took?

    Hey Lachlan,is it better to take new logs now, because i have no boost leak now and the guys at vesatune said that it should be my problem. Also i only know how to take a log in the versatune software, not sure if you can read it without the program can you ?

    Anyway these are the parameters they wanted me to log in versatune:

    Post here a 4th gear WOT log between 3000 and 6000rpm and let's see what the problem may be.
    Log the following:
    1. Absolute load;
    2. Engine RPM;
    3. Mass airflow;
    4. actual AFR
    5. desired AFR
    6. Fuel Rail Pressure;
    7. Injector Duty Cycle;
    8. Timing Advance;
    9. Knock retard;
    10. Manifold Absolute Pressure;
    11. Wastegate Duty Cycle;
    12. Vehicle Speed;

    But they said its ok to do it in 3rd because i said if it was in 4th if i got caught i would probably be doing over 200 haha.

    Yeah, new ones would be good. I assume versatune let's you save them as a CSV which can be opened in excel. I would add throttle position to that list.

    Thanks anyway Lachlan but I think I might take it to a performance place. Anyone know any around the Brisbane area that have a lot of experience with mps's?

    2xs racing is well known in the Brisbane area. I know they're on fb, not sure about a web page

    Whoever you go to, get them to specifically check the fuel pump and booster on a rolling road. Under WOT as it hits boost, can shut down into limp mode and your rpm stays constant and speed decreases. Doesn't kick an error code either...

    Just eliminate the issue if it isn't the pump/booster.

    Happened to my Gen1 3 about 2.5 years into the life. Could replicate it rather easily, the dealer couldn't. Thankfully after 3 days on a dyno, problem was found at another workshop here in Melbourne.

    I can have a look at it. You have my number.

    I have some spare vacuum hose and the first things I would be checking are the hoses to the EBCS and that this TIP has stayed on properly. Mine kept sliding off my turbo even though it was tightly clamped.
