The Mazda MX-5 has earned high acclaim as a pure driver’s car thanks to its superb handling and agility with just the right amount of power.

Now the brand is set to improve on this philosophy by adding affordability to the mix with a new entry-level MX-2 Roadster rumored to be in development for 2013.
Although its future hasn’t been set in stone just yet, with Mazda largely hoping the economy will have recovered by then since a roadster isn’t exactly best way to stimulate a difficult economic environment.

Its design will mimic the next-generation models from Mazda which have been based on the Nagare ‘Flow’ series of concept vehicles, incorporating the now trademark wide-mouthed grille.
The engine line-up is purely speculation at this point, although the pecking order would suggest something smaller and more efficient would be slipped under the bonnet compared to the MX-5.
