The 2015 Leukaemia Foundation Aussie Muscle Car Run has so far raised $153,000 to help fund vital research into finding a cure for blood cancer.

Bridgestone Australia is the Principal Partner of the popular event, throwing its support behind the dedicated motoring enthusiasts who each raised thousands of dollars and trekked hundreds of kilometres across South Australia in cars dating back to the 60s and70s.

About 80 people travelling in 40 cars took part in the South Australian event, visiting local Bridgestone stores during their 2218km journey. Destinations along the route included Port Augusta, Whyalla, Port Lincoln, Mallala and a dip into New South Wales to the Mundi Mundi Plains near Broken Hill, which were featured in the iconic Mad Max films.

Bridgestone Australia and New Zealand Managing Director Andrew Moffatt said the Company was proud to support the annual event for a fourth consecutive time in 2015.

“Blood cancer is a disease which strikes 34 Australians every day and we take our support of the Leukaemia Foundation and the important work they do seriously,” Mr Moffatt said.

“Not only is the event a great chance for people to take their Bathurst-era wheels on a unique trek, it also raises awareness about leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma in regional areas and generates funds to help the Foundation’s quest for a cancer-free future.”

To be eligible for the event, participating vehicles had to raise $4000. Teams reached this target by hosting community events, running raffles and asking family and friends to donate.

Additional funds were raised nationally through events held in the Northern Territory in June and Western Australia in October, with the final amount still to be tallied.

Bridgestone Australia is a proud partner of the Leukaemia Foundation and has been for 29 years, providing patient transport vehicles, assisting with patient accommodation and more.
