    Default COBB or Magnaforce?

    Hi guys,

    Contemplating a cat back to finish off my turbo back COBB downpipe and resonator delete (getting rid of HKS muffler to have dual back). I like the two sounds from the COBB and Magnaforce one. Plus the CP-E one is quite expensive due to US dollar skyrocketing. Corksport is too loud and I want to get an AU shipped one rather than getting it overseas. Does anyone with either of these two brands care to share your experiences? Quality? Drone? Note? I would like a lumpy sounding exhaust (kind of like what I have with the resonator delete, but more pronounced). The magnaforce I can get for $750 fitted and poweruns to check tune, but the COBB is over $1200, plus tune. Cobb looks better quality though.

    Thoughts?

    I'll be watching this, after an exhaust as well over the stock sound, even though I have a gen 1 surely they would be similar? Do you have a HPFP?

    Re HPFP : Ah yeah..sorry the "COBB STAGE 3 BIT'S" part in my signature includes everything in COBBS stage 3 package, HPFP included. The only thing I didn't buy from that pack was a front mount as I felt the 308hp @tw's wasn't enough to grant a large FMIC. TMIC from CP-E flows a good 400hp+ before needing an upgrade and 0 lag and has a juicy thick core. I have driven for hours and it stays ice cold.

    Regarding exhaust....The gen 1's a bit different as it's a single outlet where as gen 2 is dual. I think it would sound the same as they use the same muffler I suppose, perhaps less lumpy as no split? I am getting a custom setup on Friday using a magnaflow muffler and 3" SS pipes out to two 4" tips. Basically the same as the Magnaflow package for gen 2's, but not bolt on. The difference is I am getting this custom for $800 vs $1500 to import a magnaflow CBE from US with the horrid dollar rate and crazy shipping (unless I want to wait 2-3 months). He said it would sound amazing, and at 800$ ill take my punt. I'll update you and let you know how it is and sounds. You might want to go down this route if you are like me and not in to wasting huge dollars on basically a 0 performance increase (it's all in the dump!).

    yeah that makes sense, where are you getting it done? I am after performance but also sound, the stock exhaust is "quiet" and $800 sounds alot better than $1500 but keep us updated

    Ok I got the exhaust fitted today from Lilydale Exhaust Fix. Tiny little exhaust shop behind Horseland on the Maroondah Highway (ask for Dave as he done a few now and imports magnaflows in alot). In the end I got him to take off the stock flange from my COBB 3" dump and make one long straight mandrel bend stainless pipe to the magnaflow muffler coming out at twin 4" tips. Sounds beautiful and ended up costing me just shy under a grand (about 180 extra for SS pipes etc). I got quoted $1500 for JUST the same exhaust but prefab from a place who specialise in magnaflow in dandy. That is with out fitting. Mps garage etc had CPE, but was abour $1600 delivered due to US prices and shipping. The US increase has made imports expensive!

    Very happy with it so far, sound very very clean down low and a low burble at idle and at WOT it sounds like a STI wrx. Going to HPF on thur to do a few power runs to check tune (piece of mind, as CBE doesnt change it essentially enough to effect spool etc), but no noticable changes to car drivability.... If you want more power mate, a cat back is not what your after. The 3" dump is what needs replacing and the cat back just makes it all sound nice. My exhaust now is 3" dump straight with 3" straight to muffler and out. Thought it would be loud, but ZERO drone.

    Would of cost close to $1800 fitted if a prefab job - Custom is definately the way to go at the moment and the only difference is that the welds are probably not as pretty, but who can see it?

    In terms of quiet, the most noise I gained was changing dump pipe and removing resonation...opened it up nicely. Magnaflow muffler is alot cleaner sound though...as stock muffler sounded a bit rough.
