Thread: whistling noise... boost leak ?

  1. Post whistling noise... boost leak ?

So over the weekend I got going on installing my hdi gt2 intercooler and hpfp internals..
After everything was done I took the car for a spin, although noticed a problem.
When I was hitting boost there was this strange whistle sound coming from the engine, I looked over all the clamps and there was no sign of any leaks.. and I've currently blocked off the BOV port. Although when hitting boost I was keeping boost, so didn't feel like I was dropping any psi and my cobb showed that it was holding boost ?

This sound only happened after I installed the fmic

Could just be the sound of air going through the pipes, know I could hear something similar when I had mine...
    What do your AFR's show?
They'll go lower than previous if you've got a leak...

Haven't taken notice of the AFR, how much of a difference would I have to expect ?
I'll have to pressure test the system before anything .
Instead of the turbo "fluttering" in between shifts it's making more of a noise like "tuuuuu " so effectively I'm guessing there could be a small leak somewhere

anymore info on this? I recently just purchased a stock 06 MPS and can hear a whistling sound (similar to air leaking out of a tire with a whole in it) whenever my turbo kicks in

Is that at or near WOT Chris? I know my 6 MPS gets a subtle,
but noticeable induction whistle when I'm giving it all she's got.

it was at WOT but I had a closer look at the engine and the hose clamp was loose, tightened it up and it's running all good now, thanks

I'm guessing the turbo to intercooler

That's the most common, and if you can hear it, seems most likely!
