So I've had a pod on my MPS3 series 1 for nearly two years. The difference was notable in better pickup, more urgent acceleration. I rang a tuning specialist the other day because I'm looking at performance options, and he was "oh dear, you've probably damaged your engine because it doesn't know it has a bigger intake, and will run lean and the timing will be wrong...give me $1900 (for the XA package, or stage 1 tuning upgrade with no mods) and we may have to do more work to fix the damage".
I freaked out cursing myself for my own stupidity, and rang a mechanic mate who reckons that between the MAF and the o2 sensor the computer should compensate for better airflow.
But the expert point-of-view is that, as I read in the tuning forum, the MAF still senses only the air flowing past it, not allowing for increased diameter, so the engine will run lean, etc.
Is it likely that in fact I have damaged the internals of the engine?
If not, will the Hypertech plug-in retune the engine to suit the increased airflow?
Should I revert immediately to the stock airbox and avoid the drama altogether?
