Click in rail of driver's seat when going around a left hand corner. Gone now of its own accord. That's it in 39,000km! What are you guys doing to your cars?

That reminds me of a funny story: I had this loud metallic ticking sound coming from the drivers seat every time I went round a corner. It got so annoying that I pulled the seat out (it weighs about 25kg btw) and cleaned the mechanisms and went right through it with silicone lube.

While the seat was out I looked at the amp that's bolted to the floor under the seat and thought yeah why not pull it out and give it a clean also.

Turned out to be a good decision because I discovered a 5 cent piece that had found its way into the amp enclosure and become trapped. It was sliding around on the carpet inside there causing the tapping noise every time it hit the enclosure.

Problem solved and as a bonus the electric seat got a service.

    Gone to Volvo

Default MPS3 rear arm rest replaced under warranty

    Hi all,

Don't know if anyone else has come across this. The leather arm rest in the middle of the back seat is very "crinkled" in comparison with the rest of the leather in the car. Mazda have agreed to replace it under warranty. Nice

*** sorry just realised this is the MPS6 section (I know, damn 3 drivers)

My car just back from 40,000km service. As noted in another posting, Mazda volunteered a warranty replacement item and have ordered the part; a failed bearing in the sinuous belt tensioner idler pulley.

It's producing an irritating but entirely driveable rattle, the source of my only complaint on booking in, especially when the air-con is turned on as it increases the load on the bearing.

I still have the original clutch. So far it seems fine. I'm not hard on clutches anyway and don't mind the sudden uptake on this one.

  6. Default RH engine mount replaced at 91000 km - nothing else

I've just had the number 3 (RH) engine mount replaced on my 6 MPS (2006 model) after 91000 km. I was getting a clunk on gear changes when the engine was cold. I reported this to the dealer at the 90K service and asked them to check the engine mounts. Of course they told me the engine mounts were OK.

I left the car in overnight so that they could be there when it was operated when cold and after a lap of the dealership the problem was acknowledged and they had the new mount in before lunchtime.

According to a friend who works at a dealership, collapsing of the RH hydraulic engine mount is a common problem.

Nice one Paul. I have the problem also. Dealer has said it's normal thus far. Will keep on to it and if gets worse then will go back in.

Thanks for the post mate. Helpful

Thanks Paul, that is good information. I'm fitting the CP-e rear mount next week, so will check the RH mount too

    Clutch replaced - 38000.
Turbo replaced - 50000 (excessive bearing play)

Turbo and tailshaft were replaced after warranty expiry. Thanks to Rolfe Mazda Belconnen and Mazda HQ for covering the cost.

Clutch just after I bought it.

Leather back seat squab (whole base of seat complete) - small split in leather from stitching - hardly noticeable. Thank God for a good dealer (John Davis Motors Orange NSW) - no hassle replacement.

Radiator cap leaking occassionally (small blobs of green slime around cap and on hoses) - new cap leaked also - noticed recently that the rubber seal in the cap is not on centre. Pushed seal into centre and carefully fitted cap - NO MORE LEAKS

Both A pillar inner plastic covers - damaged by windscreen fitter. Obriens Glass paid John Davis to fit new ones. Took a while as dealer kept getting Left hand part in sealed package with RH part number.

Coming up = a slight weep from timing case oil seal (not bad enough to replace). Tore LH rear black lower bumper panel off on a gutter just after I got the car (broke clips) - lack of clips holding it in place it is starting to warp and bend away from bumper.

Im having both my rear shocks replaced under warranty on Friday. They are both making a weird noise, not leaking or visibly busted. But I get a bad noise when going over bumps and stuff and dealer investigated and the noise is coming form inside both of the rear shocks. Car now has 53,000k on it and not modified

Just had my replacement turbo ordered.

I have the common 'white smoke' problem, which was instantly recognised by the service mananger when I was idling out the front of the dealership.

Had my 60,000km service and as the warranty expires soon, I identified some problems with my service manager. On cold starts I had some excessive noise from either valves or timing chain this noise appears on the initial start and lasts for about 1/2 second, after leaving at Mazda overnight for a cold start they identified the noise as a VVT issue and have ordered parts to repair this.

I also got them to check a whining/whirring noise at 3000rpm's irrespective of gear, and this was identified as a belt pulley fault on the belt adjuster, so parts have been ordered for this too, so hopefully this will be all fixed next week when it goes back!

Already had the VVT Actuator done through warranty about a month ago, they were very easy about it, didnt want to hear it, just asked me what it was doing lol

    Update!

Got my 6 back today and had the VVT accuator, belt tensioner pulley replaced and the transfer case oil seals fixed again. Strangely though I noticed some good things, there no longer seems to be a vibration on acceleration and the diff whine has almost gone (still there but very slight) not sure here, but maybe ripping out the guts and playing around seems to have fixed this, also have a suspicion they replaced the RH engine mount, as that may have caused some of my acceleration vibrations and it looks new!

Regardless of what they fixed, the warranty has now expired but I'm really happy with my beast again and it appears all of my niggly little faults have been fixed

    Geez, you guys are great!

Sorry it's taken a while and thanks very much for all the great advice!!

So here's what's been up with my baby: I've had the clutch replaced under the TSB.

I've also been complaining for quite a while now of a whining noise when I slightly rest my foot on the accelerator, usually noticeable above engine and road noise about 60 km/h. If I can describe the noise it's like a "woot-woot-woot-woot-woot" that seems to change with speed and revs.

Also, I have a few interior problems that I would like to know if anyone else has had these replaced under warranty. For example, my gear knob looks like crap as previous owner has carved it up with a ring... Mazda has told me $500 to replace this. Also, the leather on the steering wheel has gone to crap too and I'm guessing will probably be about $1000 to replace considering the knob is $500.

    Thanks again guys!! MPS power!

    Hey mate,

I'm not sure about the noise, but is there a vibration associated with this?

I had a noise that was kind of like a woong noise at 3000rpm and Mazda identified this a the drive belt tensioner pulley which they replaced. I have diff whine around 100-120kph not too loud but noticably, Mazda advise this is normal!

Can't help with gear knob, but my wedding ring has scratched mine, haven't tried polishing it yet though!

I took my 6 in to Mazda yesterday to get all work done before running out of warranty. i took it first to RACQ and a local performance shop to get a list of items in nead of repair. Centenary Mazda have aggreed to all items and they are being fixed under warranty.

    100,000kms

    1) valvetrain rattle at startup (VVT problem as listed above) - replaced
    2) waterpump leaking - replaced
    3) rear diff part called PTO leaking - replaced
    4) boot gas struts not working - replaced
    5) drivers seat clicking on left turns - lub and tightened seat rails
    6) alternator diodes suspect - replaced
    Red '05 6MPS.

I also took my 6 into a local Jap Performance Car place to get a check over prior to my last service under warranty next week and heres what they found wrong with it. My car drives perfect and I would never have known there were any of these issues except my rear suspension thump which drives me mental. Ive never had issues with the vibration or anything and my car always drives like a dream ...the only issue I have had is my turbo seal going at 30,000k with no mods

    1. Dry Coolant Stain on water pump (not sure exactly what this means if there is some seal or something needs replacing or its leaked in the past)
    2. Front Diff is leaking Oil
    3. Front LH Drive Shaft seal is leaking oil
    4. Minor Wear on rear suspension bushes
    5. Rear Suspension noise over bumps not related to accelerating or decelerating (Mazda have replaced both rear shocks under warranty about a month ago to fix this problem, but its still there). the guy recommended I tell Mazda to take it to a specialist suspension place as he can see anything that would be causing the thump

Anyhow I have told mazda of the items on the list so lets see what happens at my service next week

I would never classify my 6 as a problem car, quite the opposite so the guy finding stuff surprised me

sounds like there are a few of us starting to coe to the end of our warranty on our 6's now.
