There are cheap ones on EBay that are older/out of date model numbers. Still a low cost option!

For reference, our stock turbos are rated for 34 lb/min (260g/s) but some are capable of pushing close to 38lb/min (285-290 g/s)

    A S1 is rated at 35-36lb/min, as a gt2860

Granted it's on a 1.8L engine, but seems like a relevant discussion in regards to the gt28rs, and the gtx2860/2863/2867 trio...

Ok well I have had the smoking turbo issue confirmed and a dyno run today showing a meek 168kW. Boost and torque curves look good, just the numbers are down.

So, confirmed diagnosis. I need a new turbo. Picking up a HPFP tonight, Option now look like BNR S1 or a GTX28r. Tunehouse tells me that can do better than a BNR turbo but that will likely be fairly expensive. I want to explore it as an option nonetheless.

Then i must have a freak turbo lol

don't think i have seen less than 280g/s ever lol.
usually floating up near 300g/s most logs and sometimes just over 300g/s.

stock airbox, stock maf, jbr silicone elbow and TIP, 2xs dump
doing 19.5psi tapering to 18.5 currently, was targeting 20.5~19.5 at redline, but WGDC were almost maxxed near redline so pulled the boost back by 1psi
    well... i didn't... Ray did

But think its a matter of how long until mine shits the bed.

when it does I really want a GTX28 CHRA and compressor housing with the k04 rear housing.
I am basically after the same as Reedy to be honest.

280g/s on stock air box??? Fark, I'd be holding onto that one...
    Sure it's stock?

    Lol plz... no alcam here

stock box, k&N panel... which we know flows... with an extra 3" pipe plumbed into the side of the box.
latest logs saw peak of 294g/s @ 18C on the 3rd consecutive 4th gear pull.
292, 295 and 294 were the peak flows on each pull. these current cold 5degC nights see peak of 300

    edit: 18.35 psi, 6276rpm, 84% WGDC, BAT 111degF, intake 64degF.

you can tell the turbo is massiveley out of its effeciency as the BATS sky rocket in the high rpm lol.

I'm going to say the best spooling Garrett turbo for us is a gtx2860, but I can't find anyone who ran one...

From what my searches have found it'll flow a bit more than a k04 whilst keeping spool very similar... Maybe 100rpm later... Will see if I can find technical data...

back in my SR20DET days, the gt2871 was a shit hot rage. that or the disco potato gt28rs (gt2860) I think it was.

Anyways, not sure if its the same for our platform, but back then both turbos came with two different exhaust housing 0.86 or 0.64 or something like that. you pick the larger one for more top end or the smaller one for better response.

Might be good to check if you can also choose an exhaust housing for your requirements. but mind you we got an extra 300cc compared to the SR20 and the lag wasnt too bad with the larger housing apparently.

found a link regarding the 2871. ah the memories. http://www.sr20forum.com/turbo/11111...times-etc.html

GTX rapes the GT series now lol.
But yes you can select 60, 63 or 67 exducer wheel on the GTX28 series.

after starting off in the SR platform and moved along to the 4G and L3... man those SR's are laggy as shit lol.

GTX2860R is the baby, which is best for still maintaining that quick spool yet maintained power... rather than falling off top end lol

they have a nice handy compare compressor maps tool on their page too btw.

lol, I haven't kept up with the times.

Reedy, wouldnt a slightly slower spool be offset by the slightly better top end power? Guess it really depends on the track you normally go on though. Driver mod would also be warranted with any changes to hardware

Being track orientated, reliability would be a high priority. I wouldnt be putting a stock turbo back on that's for sure.

Its not just the displacement its the high compression engine of ours that help spool turbos, DI its great

yeah, if you're going that size, you'd be mad to stick with the standard GT...
the 2863 gives you a tad more top end (43-44lb/min rather than 41) which by ricer maths should be good for 420-430hp at the engine (1lb/min = ~10hp)
