    Default Pilot sport a/s 3

So... Was looking for new tires for my car and came across these:
Pilot Sport A/S 3 | Michelin Tires|Details About Vehicle Tires from Michelin's Mobile Tire App

It seems Michelin has taken their ps3 to a whole new level...

500 tread wear rating, and from all reviews, some of the best grip and braking of anything short of a semi slick...

Am looking for a good all round tire with decent tread life...

Sadly my first 2 choices both require importing...
    The ps3 a/s and the Continental's DWS...
Both have tread wear at >500...

Stupid Australia... The category is "ultra high performance all seasons"

What does the high tread wear mean in laymans terms? I noticed the rs3 were only 140 and have been upgraded to 200. What's the benefit of the higher tread wear rating? Does the higher rating mean higher grip tyres cause I couldn't fault the rs3's.
    Thanks!

Usually higher tread wear means longer life
So, a 400 treadwear will last twice as long as 200

It also means it's likely a harder compound, where the rs3/ad08's are a soft compound, respond well to heat etc, tires like a pilot sport 3 (standard) is 300+ tread wear, and a harder compound.

Usually lower rating = softer rubber = more grip & less distance before replacing

I think drag radials are usually in the 40-60 range...

    Is this them here Sam?

If so, they are pretty damn cheap in a 225/40/18

What are your opinions of Nitto INVO's? Had them on a previous car and were the best All-Rounder Ive ever driven on, good prices too

Others I'm looking at, but due to the fact we live in Australia, and therefore cannot have nice things, they aren't available at local sellers...

Don't they sell them as a tyre you can use in snow, same as the DWS (dry, wet, snow)

Not much snow on Australian why not just get the normal PS3?

    Couple of reasons...
Main one is that ps3's aren't available in stock gen 1 size (215/45/18)

Granted they are (apparently) use able in snow... But you'd be crazy to have them in snow... So that's not really the point... Canberra gets damn cold in winter, and the rs3's aren't very good in sub 5 deg temps... So I want a more "all round tire"

The a/s are also about $100 a corner cheaper with a 500 treadwear compared to 300 of standard ps3's

I just fitted 225/45/18 instead. Are you sure that they are that much cheaper, I spent less than $900 for the ps3, granted you will get more wear but shipping would kill any saving I would think

    What?
Where did you get ps3's for under 900?
Everywhere has quoted me 350+ each

I think that was from Jax but from memory bob jane and Costco were about the same

The trick is to make sure the size you get is one that is stocked, unstocked sizes like I assume 215/45 is were like double the price

Just ordered 4 x 225/45/R18 Michelin Pilot Super Sport from Tirerack.

I have been advise customs are now charging an inspection fee. Adised it would be $40.00

They should be here in 6-7 days. Will give feedback on performance when fitted.

    Cheers

That's messed up Sam. $100 more per corner than 235's!

Yeah, 215/45 and 225/45 are not very common sizes in 18's
18x7 is a prick of a rim choice...
