Thread: Benefits from upgraded TMIC on stock engine?

  1. Default Benefits from upgraded TMIC on stock engine?

Are there any benefits to be made from upgrading the TMIC on an engine that is otherwise standard (other then heatsoak). I guess what i really asking is are there any horsies to be found?

Yes, but will you feel it in the drivers seat no.. Once you start with intake tuning and turbo it becomes tmic/fmic essential

    cooler boost temps
turbo doesnt have to work as hard for same boost levels (less pressure drop)

So any benefit from SRI and TMIC?

Yes. Less heat = more timing = more power. Have a look through some other threads too to get a better idea. Has been discussed a few times before.

hpf should be able to pick up about 20kw from added tmic

Upgraded TMIC are less prone to heat soak but when they do get heat soaked like sitting at tragic lights they take longer to cool down due to their larger mass

Ahh they actually cool down quicker than a stock one..

Less likely to get heat soaked upgraded TMIC eg stock intercooler heats up quicker at tragic lights than the CPE but when the CPE gets hot takes longer to cool down due to the thermal mass ie more metal to cool down, this is what I have noticed between my CPE TMIC compared to stock ,more metal= Longer cool down
A bigger TMIC like a CPE are a double edged sword

No take longer to cool down than stock one when soaked, at least my CPE TMIC does when soaked , more metal means more thermal mass to cool down.
An upgraded TMIC takes longer to get soaked than a stock TMIC

I think most people would say since its bigger piping it allows more airflow in to cool quicker and since its more efficient and less heat soak it still cools quicker than stock

Yep, I imagine the extra heatsoak would be 'problematic' for all of 10 seconds once you get moving again. Besides, I highly doubt someone would be needing full boost and going WOT from a standstill in traffic conditions.

Long story short OP, bigger TMIC = better cooling and better flow. THAT should be the reason behind upgrading anyway.

Mmm interesting ,My personal option is the CPE core is too big and the Hyperfow and cork sport are a better design ie smaller core .I personally find that with me anyway my CPE takes longer too cool down than when I was stock although I don't have any logs to prove this theory.
