    Default SRI... Need ideas!

    Hi guys,

I'm 2 weeks new to the world of the MPS and might I say... WOW!

I have a 2008 Mazda 3 BK Series 2 MPS that has no physical mods however has had a 'Flash Tune' carried out by MRT in Sydney.

I'm now looking to kick off the never ending list of mods with an aftermarket air intake system.

I've been considering the K&N Typhoon Air intake (Short Ram) and also the COBB Tuning SF Intake.

    What are your thoughts???

Also, would consider buying something second hand if anyone has one sitting around not being used...

    Thanks in advanced!

Find out which sri has the biggest pipe diameter and pick the one that's bigger. Different in brand or material wouldn't make a noticeable difference imo.

But personally I go with Cobb as there's airbox for it off the shelf as its pretty hot under the hood for a gen 1 with a opening like gen 2

And 2nd hand is fine as u can always clean the filter before using it

If you are tuned any mods require a update from tuner..

    Sweet as man!

I'm pretty confident the Cobb is also the way to go... I've read on other threads that people believe that is the way to go!

If I am to ask the people of Oz MPS Club on the forum that I am looking for one how do I go about posting that on the Market section of this forum...?

Edge Autosport has them brand new for $389.00 with the Box...

Cool... that shouldn't set me back too much should it?

Are MRT a good option in Sydney or does this forum have a preferred user...?

Go the Cobb SRI and box and you will need a retune if you get a SRI, get retune done at tune house , prob cost about $300 for one.

This is depending on what mods! Tune House are great but since they are great they can charge for there greatness . I was tuned and serviced by them and never had a bad thing to say. Was only price and travel that I stopped going there
Many want Power not many hold it long.........

I'm loving the different opinions! This is awesome!

First forum I've ever been a part of...

JMAC - I really am considering a Corksport Stage 2 with the box... Seems like they are the Mazdaspeed specialists...

Off the official website the SRI is $250 and the box is $90 both purchased separately.

Can't recommend the cork sport stage 2 with box enough. Looks great, works great and sounds awesome!

Yeah dude like i said this is awesome.

I know I sound like a noob at the moment but I'll most definitely get the hang of it.

I believe the Majority is recommending the Corksport...

Now I guess the only thing would be... where to buy? and then where to tune upon installation?

Awesome man! Shotgun the SRI and air box.

Where abouts in Sydney are you?

Might even take a couple of other things off your hands if you like..

    How soon were you thinking?

Cork sport are pretty good to deal with, so id go through them.
For other parts, edgeautosport.com are awesome. Check it out!

For tuning, look up the Cobb accessport. It's an extremely versatile piece of kit. Cheaper (by far) for tuning as well. You can log and monitor and a whole heap of stuff with it. I wouldn't bother with places like mrt and Tunehouse for tunes because they offer no where near the value for money as the accessport, but make sure YOU do your own research and make sure you get what you think is best for you :-)

Hey man, I really am considering an Accessport... I'm just really worried that I'll do more harm that benefit you know.

This is my second Turbo car so I've got no idea what I'm doing with Tuning and whatnot... My first was a 2000 WRX which I kept stock. (I've actually still got it and it is for sale)

If I don't manage to find a good second hand Cork sport then I will use edgeautosport.com and purchase a new one.

You can't get cork sport gear from edge.

There are hundreds, no thousands of people using the accessport id say, it wouldn't be such a successful product if it did more harm than good..

It will do harm if you play around with the tune and you don't know what you're doing though!

I've heard great things about the Accessport but like you said you need to know what your doing... That's where the harm comes into it all.

Especially because the car has already been tuned by MRT and is running awesome I wouldn't want to lose that tune...

But anyway... first things first... Cork sport stage II with box!!!
