Thread: Mazda 3 mps with higher mileage opinions

  1. Default Mazda 3 mps with higher mileage opinions

    Hi guys,

About to purchase a 3 MPS the price is a steal!!!
    Overall condition is great.

The query I have is that it has done 215,000 Km's.
is there anything I should be looking out for? Or something that can become an issue??

Potentially can get the car for 9k

What year is the MPS? GEn1 or Gen2?

Check for a bulletproof service history - sorry if I'm telling you how to suck eggs but you didnt say anything about that and any crash history. Here's a link that can help further

Other potential things is the engine mounts and the VVT/Timing chain. With the timing chain (claimed to be lifetime by Mazda can fail) - see if it has been changed before and when.

Also a smoking turbo due to the mileage. Idle the car when it has warmed out and see if smoke pours out after 5-10mins - Use this waiting time to get to know the owner as well..

Hey mate It is an 2006 series 2 no accident history.
Car has full service history up until 170,000kms (Mazda internal use)
From there the current owner serviced it himself.

    Engine:
-Listen for noise indicating the timing chain is loose.
-Check the condition of all engine and transmission mounts.

    Turbo:
-Leave the car to idle for a few minutes and check for any blue or white smoke from the exhaust.

    Suspension:
-Check the dampers for leaking oil.
-Check control arm bushes and suspension linkage/bar bushes for wear or compression.

    Other:
-Check that it's had a recall to fix the engine mount issue, or at least had it checked. I believe it still counts for the Facelift model.

Anything else is probably more cosmetic.
