Autoexe Carbon Fiber Gear Knob

So anyways I recently purchased AutoExe Carbon Fiber Shift Knob and I'm having fitment issues. The bolt pattern is correct because I turned the the silver part (as per attached picture) upside down and it screws down perfect. But when I try to screw it down the right way around it is too long and does not screw in at all because of the guard where the top of the gaiter sits on. Any idea's how to make this fit?
