Thread: Inconsistant performance?

  1. #1

    Cool Inconsistant performance?

I understand how temperature / climatic conditions can affect the performance of any vehicle on a daily bases. However I find that my that the performance of my MPS varies even when these conditions don't. Does anyone else notice this? Can anyone explain what other factors could be contributing to the performance variance

fuels, driving habits, humidity and not just temp make a difference

so if you want it to perform at its best. give it heaps.........if you nanna it the car will learn the bad habit.

the car will learn how you drive the car over 50kms or so. It will save a "personality map" in the car, but it relearns all the time.

I've noticed on trips out to te country (100km/h backroads) after a while when i have to make a turn onto a different road it doesn't have the same 'pull', though a butt dyno isn't exactly the most reliable of things....

Mate just picked up his new 09 WRX.The Dealer at Subaru told him to drive fairly aggressively if that is how he drove his old car,as the new one will pick up on his habits.

Nope. Dealer told him not to worry. Just dont dump the clutch at redline ( not in those exact words).

He did run it in though, against a MPS and i think an evo 7 a day after he got it

There's very strong arguments for and against having a easy run in period for a engine....

my dealers have always told me to give it a good run in up and down clyde mountain, combo of highway cruising speeds, high revs, slow revs .. zoom zoom overtaking, mountains etc

i was told by a racecar mechanic and peter hackett that i shouldnt put the car under load for the first 500kms but feel free to free rev it out as the kms add. then for the next 500kms or so build up engine load

ive run in two xr5s, my first one i just gunned it, this one i used the above philosophy and it loosened up faster. also puts out more kw but that could be engine variance. im sure its different for every car......but this seemed to work for me....300hp and no troubles after 45000kms.......yet.

my guys said gun from work go.

Fuel is a big factor with these cars, i swear by BP Ultimate.

Also, how loud you have the stereo up make massive differences to car performance, you'll find a car fueled by Accadacca is way way faster than a transvision vamp powered car. Hence why WRX is so slow...Boyzone or Take That robs about 50KW ATW.

I've always used BP ultimate - great stuff. I'm just glad i haven't seen any off these people driving around listening to 'transvision vamp'. Scary

yeah the run in of a vehicle is an interesting topic. me i was told by dealer to 'not baby it' drive it how you normaly would and let it drive at idfferent rpm's . only thing was to not sit on one speed for extended times. i to notice at times car feels a little sluggish. one day its off like a rocket and some days it just feels like its missing the rocket personality. then the next day its a rocket again.

still, it take a fair amount of money to get them as quick as a stock mps 3, you need an intercooler AND tuner to hold the boost to match. Then more money again to go quicker. =/
