Thread: cobb ap vs hypertech

  1. Default cobb ap vs hypertech

    Hi,

Just wondering if I would get any advantages power wise or other for a stock gen 1?

Are Cobb maps better for performance and power compared to hyper tech?

I am baring in mind that hyper is half the cost. I'm not planning on modifying past stock.

Get COBB, install, do skids, profit...

Mod car later on, get E-TUNED, more power, more skids, profit

+1 to bulk skids... In your pants from the "Holy F&ck" moments the Cobb maps do to your car!

More mods, update the maps in the AP and BAM.

    Can't speak for the Hypertech.

    But depends on your plans.

No doubt, just putting it in grinning terms. The FAQ should enlighten him.

Thank you for the input guys...FAQ was not too helpful. I think I'm going with the Cobb just for overall quality of performance and capabilities.

    Cheers.

I have had both on my Gen 2 MPS3, Hypertech had more power down low so it would spin the wheels on hard acceleration, the Cobb is much smoother in the power delivery and you can use it for data logging and even a boost gauge. Go the Cobb and you won't look back.

Remember that you can't do much with the Hypertech - apart from choosing a few options when you flash the ECU. I've not found a huge difference all round with the Hypertech apart from a smoother power delivery and slightly better fual economy.

In short, a Hypertech is worth $250 - 300 used but if you really want to squeeze as much performance out of your MPS and don't plan on keeping the car stock, go the Cobb AP.

for those of you who have used both the hypertech and cobb, what is mid-RPM throttle response like on the cobb AP?

I am not looking for maximum power figures and would much prefer throttle response and torque

AP Stage 1 VS Hypertech = Hypertech
AP Stage 2 VS Hypertech = AP

Ive had Stage1, Stage2 and the Hypertech on the 3 and tested Stage1 and still have the Hypertech on the 6.

The throttle response on a COBB stage 1 is no different (or maybe even abit lagger) to the OEM map. Hypertech seems to amp up the throttle response. So, what JMAC said is quite spot on.
When in doubt, power out....of control.
