Thread: Twin DP and EWG???

    Default Twin DP and EWG???

Been looking at possible turbo upgrades and had a question regarding Twin DP's and EWGs.

Was planning to do full exhaust with the stock K04 running a Twin DP (2XS, Best Mufflers etc) as I want to extract as much power from it before upgrade time.

Now from what I understand, the DP will bolt up directly to a GTX2867r for example, however I also plan to add CP-E manifold and EWG.

What i'm not too sure on is if I install the turbo/manifold/EWG and use the COBB IWG Bracket, are there any effects by still using the Twin DP?

I'm under the impression that it won't matter much because as they are split pipe, exhaust gasses will be bypassing the IWG port but still flowing the same from the exhaust housing??

And to confuse you all even more, say i was to run the EWG with a screamer pipe, could i modify a Twin DP by cutting the Twin DP IWG pipe and adding a flange so i can plumb the screamer when necessary?

happy to be proven wrong...just looking at options and if this will work fine, it saves me buying 2 DP's. If not, happy to sell it when its no longer required and get custom DP fabbed up

    Cheers

    James

    Few things...
Cobb bracket won't fit a Garret turbo
Screamer pipe is illegal and a massive epa fine...
If going EWG either go T3 or T4 twin scroll with v-band out... Ditch the stock flange
This means you can run a 3071 or 3076 and spool just as quick as a 2867
Also, by going with a "standard" flange, you have a MUCH wider choice of turbo, and can get a Precision turbo (6266) which is better than a Garrett for cheaper

Twin dp is a waste if going ewg, only helps iwg cars

Well thats exactly what i wanted to know and then some so thanks mate.

Ive driven my mates FD with a Precision Turbo and was impressed.

What about the Borg Warner sx300 series turbo as an option?

Purchased one for my FD but ended up selling it

I want to know if you can run a modified screamer which is still plumbed into the DP but has an electronic exhaust cutout so you can "turn it on or off"

Ewg that plumbs back into exhaust (as long as pre-cat) is fine
Ewg that dumps to atmosphere will attract same fines as a catless exhaust, will also likely get you a noise violation...

You could do it Jmac. It would be legal while dumping to the DP.

The big issue I see is that the solenoid to control the EWG dump would have to be pretty robust. It is damned hot around that part of the DP.

It would probably be easier to just get an exhaust bypass done further down to run racecar style.

Thats the point though, can be quiet and legal when needed

Is a sweet idea, though realistically what kind of power gain would this (essentially) screamer pipe yield?

    None
Same advantages as a EWG that's plummed back, just extra noise

I dont think there is any benefit powerwise. There is the "Scare the shit out of cars next to you" factor though lol.

Screamer pipes were the bomb back in the rotary days... Not only scare the shit outta peeps, I used to love following cars that had them and the whole underneath would light up. The sound we used to make going through tunnels..
Mincing hard. Gotta go wank. Lol

Thats half the reason I made this thread lol i love "crackin gate" in tunnels. The last car I drove with a screamer was a 400 odd kw e30 BMW with a 13b Bridgeport and GT42r on e85! Pure awesomeness....my ears are still ringing
