Thread: New tyre suggestions for Gen2 MPS

  1. Default New tyre suggestions for Gen2 MPS

    Hi folks.
It's time to replace the tyres on my Gen2 MPS3.

I'm considering either of the following:

    - Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2
    - Michelin Pilot Sport 3

Although I'm quite happy with the performance of the stock Dunlop SP Sport 2050s on the car, I'd be curious to hear any suggestions you guys might have for alternatives.

FWIW there's still a bit of tread on the front so I'll be replacing the back tyres now and the front ones in a month or so.

    Federal RSR
    Bridgetone RE002
    Sumitomo Z3

All have great dry grip and above average wet performance. My Experiance with the above tyres has been great.

The Advan AD08 are also top, but I am yet to try these, but no lack if good reviews.

I can also vouch for Kuhmo KU39s being great tyres for the money.

Wow that's an awesome deal. Super duper deal

I had those tyres in that size on my stock GenII Rims and I can vouch they are an awesome tyre
I liked them so much I bought another set of the Pirelli PZero Rosso's but for my new rims (235/35 ZR19)

This eBay store has some awesome prices, might not have to import them myself next time

I had Michelin PS3's on my old car (WRX) and they were phenomenal tyres. Amazing grip in the dry, much more quiet than the Bridgestone RE001's, very comfy tyres and just as amazing performance in the wet. The re001's probably had the best dry weather performance but did suffer in the wet, PS3's were amazing all round. They were a bit pricey tho.

Make sure you get the manufacture date from eBay tyres. Chances are they are cheap because they are old (read hardened) stock. Have nearly been bitten by St George tyres once.
I wouldn't buy anything older than 2 years.

Sumitomo were great, but hardened up at 35k. PS3 are great. On my second set.

Michelin Pilot Super Sports, hard to content with those marks with those treadwear figures.
Interesting to see the Crapstone RE050's () at the bottom.

Interesting to see the Pirelli Rosso's at the bottom. Got on mine. Had them on mine.

    Disappointing results
Hope there weren't too many tyre explosions!!!

Yeah, its a collection of their online surveys, you can see the reported miles on the far right. Reinforces for me that after trying at least 10 different makes/models over the last 8 or so years the Michelin Pilot Super Sports are the best in the market.
Sure, you may get better LATERAL grip from a semi slick but ive learnt thats about all they are good for, dreadful for straight line grip and treadwear is horrendous.

    Compared to the other makes there is more grip and the treadwear is excellent for the class in comparison to the competition [Note the HIGHER the BETTER wearing - ie, last longer];
    Goodyear eagle F1 - 240
    Bridgestone Re050 - 140
    Yokohama Ad08 - 180
    Michelin Pilot SuperSport - 300

So, for twice the grip and twice the lifetime compared to the stock bridgestones you cannot go wrong.

They will be going on the F6 as soon as I shred the dunlops.

Yeah only thing that stopped me from purchasing the PS3s was that tire rack weren't allowed to send Michellins overseas at that stage
